I'm so sorry to hear about the bite on the face. My kids have both been bitten and it's upsetting. My day care is very responsive and they keep any eye on the kids to try and prevent, as others have said. that is all I can expect. I would feel horrible as a "biter"'s mommy. One interesting twist in our case was that my DS came home with dark bite marks twice and the teachers couldn't say what happened and I got no report. . The director got involved when I mentioned it to her. It turns out he was also biting himself, HARD and even broke his own skin. Just illustrates that biting is a developmental thing and that keeping other babies away doesn't keep them from hurting themselves. Hope your LO is gonna be ok!

My lo got bit on the face once. It bruised but didn't break the skin. It was the straw that forced me to really hammer down with the director. You can see my other post for details. It was a serious issue and what I consider way outside the realm of normal.
