I turned my back for all of a minute while washing dishes and Vi ate huge chunks out of a gardening kneeling pad. It's made out of foam. She probably injested a good bit of it.
What should I do?

I would call poison control if it was me. I'm sure she's fine, but I'd call to check.

I'd call your pediatrician and see if you can figure out if you can see what it's made of. I'd be more worried about her not being able to digest it and getting blocked up so I don't know that poison control can answer that question. They'd probably pass it on to a ped anyways.

Ok just called. They had me nurse her and make sure her swallowing was fine (it was) and told me its unlikely to be a problem but to keep an eye out to make sure she's not constipated.
Oy. Mother of the year over here.

@Arden: don't worry, I think it happens a lot- our ped gave us a magnet with the number on it, so it must be a common need. I'vecaught my daughter with a pebble, piece of wood, and dried water color paint in her mouth before. You can't have your eyes on her all the time!
Glad you calls, hope she's fine

Is it something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Tommyco-KP818-Purpose-Garden-Kneeler/dp/B001JEOH50/ref=pd_sim_lg_1
This version is made out of polyethylene. I'm not a plastics expert by any means, but polymer chains are pretty resistant to breaking down, if I remember chemistry correctly.
Maybe lots of prunes and water for lunch today? And try not to be hard on yourself. My husband just reminded me that another little kid ate the nose off of his styrofoam glider when he was a child, and that child was fine. (The glider never flew again, however.

@Arden: don't feel bad! kids love foam! when i was little, i picked with foam from under my carseat cover and shoved it WAY up my nose, my mom had to take me to have it removed
it's soft and will probably pass easily. glad you called to check though.

It was this one (from my doula bag...) - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002YTVJA/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?qid=1390759476&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

@Arden: Amazon says that one is made of EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) foam. EVA is also a polymer. I'd defer completely to Poison Control/medical experts, but I notice that Wikipedia's entry says foam stickers are made out of EVA. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene-vinyl_acetate) I'd bet there are more than a few kids who have eaten those. Also, to the extent Wikipedia is right, EVA has biomedical applications. It sounds like it doesn't biodegrade in the body, so maybe the key is to flush it out?

Looks like it's made of EVA foam. I googled it:
Ingestion:
Acute Health Hazard: Unlikely route of exposure
Chronic Health Hazard: Not Established
Emergeney & First Aid Procedures: No adverse affects anticipated by this route of exposure.
Ingestion: No adverse effects anticipated by this route of exposure incidental to proper industrial handling. In the event this does occur, induce vomiting and promptly call physician.

I've been nursing her as much as she will, and fed her prunes and a spoonful of coconut oil. She normally poops every other day so I won't know until tomorrow if she's constipated, but she's acting normal now.
