LO has little scratches on her head from her scratching herself when she's nursing or playing. I think she does it for comfort, but now she has these slightly bloody scratch marks on her head (she doesn't have much hair). I try and keep her nails short but it doesn't always help. Mittens don't work (they fall off) and I could put a hat on. Anyone else's LO do this? Did they outgrow it? LO is almost 4 months.

My son did this for a little while during nursing too for comfort. I just put a hat on him before nursing. He eventually outgrew it.

Yup when he is falling asleep hr will scratch his head . He is almost 5 months he also will do it when eating.

LO is 7.5 months and still scratches her head while nursing and when she's sleepy. I don't understand how hurting themselves is comforting! We just keep her nails short and pull her hand away or give her something to hold to distract her.

My LO is almost 6 months and still does this when she is sleepy or having a bottle; but less than when she was younger. If she is scratching herself too hard, I will usually just take hold of her hand and give it a soft little squeeze and then hold hands with her; which she really likes and which calms her down immediately.

Thanks everyone! Glad to know that I'm in good company. I usually hold her hand if I can or give her a toy. Guess this will be one of her quirks!

My LO scratches his face, looks like he's been in a fight with a kitten. Not much you can do other than keep the nails short and ope they grow out of it!
