What size shoes were your LO's wearing when they started walking?
Grandparents asked me to start making DD's Christmas wish list, and I want to put some shoes on there, but have NO idea where to even start. I'd rather ask for shoes that were too big, so she'll be able to grow into them and not risk outgrowing them before she can walk.

C just got shoes yesterday (late walker at 15.5months) and was a 4.5. Had him measured at 11 months and he was a 4. I have noticed from friends that this can vary wildly from kid to kid.

She was wearing a 4 when she took her first steps at 14 months.

@Mrs. Confetti: Yeah, I'm expecting it to vary a lot. This helps a lot though, because if 4-5 is average, I'll probably ask for 5+ to be on the safe side (since I'll be asking for nice/cute shoes). Then I can buy some practical ones to tide us over until she grows into the $$ ones

LO was wearing 5's when he started walking at 9 mos. he's 13 mos now and wears a 6.5. Crazy how fast he is growing!

I would maybe take LO into Stride Rite in early November and get her sized? LO got early walkers at a year and she was a size 3 SKR.

A is a size 3 at 12 months but she has small feet. She's not quite walking yet though.

She was a size 5 at 15 months.
I think asking for a shoe size that's 5+ would be good! In the early months, they grow out of their shoes so quickly too. DD has been in her size 6's for almost a year now!

LC was a size 4 when she first started walking, but she was wearing a 5 only a few months later.
@Mrs. High Heels Ack! My daughter is a few months younger than your N, and I bought her some size 8s this week because she has just about outgrown her size 7s! And she was in a 6 over the summer!

@Pancakes: N must've inherited her feet from the women on DH's side of the family because I wear size 9's! That, or she is having a delayed foot growth spurt or something.

Oh goodness, such a variety of sizes! I hate that they grow out of shoes so quickly 
Now I'm thinking I want to ask for a 6... I am LOVING the baby TOMS. I want her to be able to wear them for a long time!

I have a petite thing and she's almost walking at 11 1/2 months and is wearing size 2 right now, I've been buying walking shoes in size 3.

I definitely agree with getting her sized. LO was sized at Stride Rite at around 12 months and she wears a 5.5W. Her size 6 baby TOMS currently fit though (she's 14 months). And I know she has much bigger feet than a lot of the other kids we know.

both charlie and olive were size 4 at the one year mark, and they wore 4's for a while. then charlie outgrew 5-6-7 after a month each over the summer! they wore 4's for about 6 months.
olive was a 5 by 21 months. at 22 months she was a 6 (feet grow faster in the summer).

@loveisstrange: kids grow faster in the summer I've read. More sleep, more play, more sun and school is out! It's been true for Charlie and olive. Charlie got measured in school today and grew 3/4 inch in a month!

@swurlygurl: I wasted so much money on shoes for Charlie! I kept thinking he was done growing. He was 8 for a really long time though and is just now starting to fit a 9 at almost 4.

My DD was a 4 when she started walking at 11 months. She's now an 11.5 at 5 yr
My DS was a 5 when he started walking and he's now a 6 at age 24 months. FWIW, he really doesn't like his Toms...

My LO started walking at 13 months and was a size 4...she wore those shoes for a long time...we moved up to size 5 around 18 months and at 22 months she's already in size 6 or 6.5 depending on the brand of shoe
