I'm always talking about how I've paid off the bulk of my massive student loans with loan forgiveness programs and I just wanted to share an article that details other programs for people who aren't physicians. Keep in mind that the program I used isn't even listed in the article, so there are probably a lot more out there.

I started with 150K and now I have less than 20K left. I actually called my lender to lower my payments to pay the minimum possible over 20 years (which is like $100/month). If I get the grant again, my loans will be paid off and I will have paid almost nothing.
When I saw they had it for librarians, teachers, veternarians and other careers, I thought it might help someone here!

@Mrs. Jacks: Wagon Sr. and I are now furiously researching PSLF! We've both worked in nonprofits for years so we may qualify for some forgiveness soon!! It looks like this is brand new as of 2012!

My DH does this! He graduated law school with 150K in student loans, and got a state job dealing with children/family. He makes way less than he could if he worked at a huge corp/private law office, but his loans will be forgiven after 10 years and he pays a measly $90/month instead of $2,000!

@Mrs. Jacks: Because of my new job I'm thinking about PSLF, even though it's going to take 10 years to qualify for forgiveness, that's better than the current 25-year-plan I'm on.
