I commute an hour each way with LO (from my house to my mom's house) to drop LO off before I head into work (another 20 minutes past there). Granted I only go into that office about 1x a week. He's 4 months old and great in the car seat, as long as he's fed and we are going over 40 miles an hour

I drove 8 hours with both my boys last month. They did fine. I've taken D 14 hours before.

I did a 7-hour round trip drive when she was eight months old. It wasn't horrible.

now that she is older and FF, I would do any amount of time that I had to that was safe. daylight hours, or some night, but not that I would get tired. we could stop for diaper changes, stretches and food.
an infant is another story!

@sorrycharlie: FF=forward facing? That's a good thought. I'll probably flip her before we travel together...

max of an hour. and that is pushing it. I wouldn't be thrilled at going more than 30-45 min really.

I would probably do 4-5 hours - thinking we would leave at nap time and he would sleep 2 hours. Then he could have a snack and play with some toys before resorting to an hour or more of iPad. (ETA he's 2.5 and would play with the iPad and watch a movie for hours).

@mediagirl: oh! yes, sorry, haha. I just couldn't heave her into the rear-facing seat anymore so I flipped her just after she turned 2. she's happy, I'm happy, I can pass her things or take things, she can see everything, etc. her carseat is installed correctly and safely, so I'm happy we made it as long as we did RF

With DS1 maybe 6 hours? With both sons just 1-2 hours. DS2 doesn't like the car seat as much.

Haha, with my LOs who are never in the car, and my dislike of driving? 15 minutes. I haven't driven a car in more than 2 years though, so I would be nervous/borderline having panic attacks about it.

I've done 6 hours before, and it was fine. I could go longer, but I'd rather not. I hate driving that long.

7 ish hours. I usually drive through the night so they sleep the whole way.

I would say 4 or 5 hours though I could do any amount of time solo if I really needed to. Just a longer trip would require a DVD player or tablet or something.

I had no choice but to drive him solo for 8 hours when he was 8 weeks (the drive was actually 5 but took us 8 with all the stopping). It was a nightmare. So now I'm terrified of driving with him alone for longer than 30 minutes or so. But if I'm being rational I could do 2 hours or so, especially if he decided to nap.

6-8 hours. He is RF and is fine with it. He does well on long car rides (this was not true at 7 months. He was awful and screamed most of a six hour drive).

Maybe 2 hours? But my kid HATES the car, always has. I hoped he'd outgrow it but it's still an issue. I wouldn't take him on a road trip if I could avoid it.

I've done 6-8. I could probably go longer but by the they are usually pretty tired of being in the car so it's easier to stick to that amount of time.

Maybe 4 max. We took her on a 12 hour car drive in September & she's really good in the car but I loathe being in the car for extended periods of time so I get a lot of guilt when I make her be in the car for awhile. But that just stems from my personal feelings.

It's amazing what they get used to! We have family about 3-4 hours away, so I've made the drive alone every 1-2 months by myself since LO was 2 months old. It was actually easier when she was an infant, as she slept more. Entertaining a toddler is trickier. I just budget in a 45 min to 1 hr break every 2 hours and that allows her a break from the car seat. I also attempt when possible to leave at naptime.

Probably about 45 mins - 1hour. She does great in the car, but she's still so young (2 months).
