I am sitting at work and outside my window is a huge crane doing work on the building next to me and all I can think of is "ooohhh look - a crane!!" - which I would say when my kids are with me....but they aren't 
Wonder if I will still be excited to see a fire truck, crane, police car, etc when m kids are 20!
Do you get excited when you see things your kids would like even when they aren't there?

Haha not yet but we aren't at ththat age yet. I was at the grocery store with her one day and she was sitting in the basket facing me and a man behind her dropped some bananas and I said "uh oh!" loudly enough that he heard me and LO wasn't even looking! lol i felt embarrassed. It's hard to switch your brain out of that mode!

Ha! Not exactly the same thing, but I find myself still narrating my day even when my 4 month old isn't around. "Now Mama is going to go to the printer and get the spreadsheet she just printed." Pretty sure my co-workers think I'm nuts!
My husband's mom still sends him pictures of stuff he used to like - I think it's sweet.

Yes! I'm always thinking now much DS would love it when I go somewhere cool for work. And then I feel sad because it's a gorgeous day, and I'm outside, and he's stuck in a little day care with a little back yard. Thank goodness for weekends!

Hahah I do this all the time. I'll drive by a random construction site and think how excited ds would be if he was with me.
