I have the same humidifier and I just throw in a stainless steel sponge in the drop, pour in some vinegar/water solution and swish it around like crazy. It seemed to get most of the ick out because of the sponge rubbing against the plastic. I tried it with other types of sponges but it didn't "hit" the plastic as hard as the steel sponge. I don't think it's 100% clean but it felt pretty decent to me.

I just bought it at a local supermarket. I forgot to mention, do you use filtered water? I only use filtered water and it leaves way less gunk than when I use tap water!

@Smurfette: I would DEFINITELY try the filtered water then. It made a huge difference. The humidifier is annoying because you have to empty out the basin and the drop container every night. But I can't live without it so I just deal with the hassle. I use filtered water only. And every few days, I clean it out by pouring in the vinegar/water solution, drop in the sponge, close the lid and shake it vigorously in all directions. I wish my hand was small enough to fit through that tiny hole so that I can hand wash it. I bothers me that I can't wash it by hand!

@Smurfette: Yeah, it's really annoying. I wish they would invent a self-cleaning humidifier!
