I asked Lorelei if I could change her diaper after she woke up from nap. She looked deep in thought and then gently touched my cheek. "Yes, Mama. You may do that. That is acceptable. Clean diapers feel better to Lorelei's bod." Uh, thanks for your permission 
She cracks me up.
Then the other night I made a quiche, which she insisted was a pizza. Finally, she started crying and said, "Lorelei says that thing is a pizza!"

@BabyBoecksMom: She's a funny one. The other day she told me, "Mama, if a tree loses its leaves it is deciduous. The pheasants don't like that." We use that sort of vocabulary day-to-day so it's not really that crazy that she picks it up. But she also picks up less desirable stuff. Like calling Freckles "Frecklesy-doodah" and telling the lady at Dairy Queen (where we were getting ice for the ride home), "My vagina is private to me. Ellie's is also private. So don't look at it!"

@Katrocap: Thank you! We just speak to her the same as we speak to Ellie or to eachother. And the farm can help, but she also picks up lots of other words unrelated to the farm.

I am always blown away by your little girl and that vocabulary of hers!! Colin's most sophisticated sentence thus far at 18 months is "I jumping" (he is not. Good try little man but those feet are right on the ground). Lorelei had better become a writer like her mama considering how fabulously chatty she is at such a young age

@Mrs. Confetti: That's really good! And I adore toddler "jumping." Lorelei does it, too. She can kind of skip... Like sometimes she'll alternate feet and say she's jumping but it's only one foot at a time. I'd be tickled pink if she ended up writing. We are really curious to see what she ends up loving. She isn't quite as focused as Ellie was at the same age. She definitely loves to collect words, though. And I am now sold on the power of the older sibling-- Ellie has helped expose Lorelei to so much, and Lorelei seeing Ellie know or do something makes her want to be able to, as well. And Ellie has such a wonderful attitude of pride about what Lorelei is capable of.

@Mrs. Twine: they are seriously such a cute pair. I love how you describe it as "collecting words" - absolutely amazing that little L. And yes, toddler jumping is a hoot. Unless you are on a bed that is very tall and over a hardwood floor, which in that case can be described as terrifying (and/or Colin's favorite activity).

@Mrs. Twine: He is very very interested in our beds. Mr. C started to let him "jump" on our guest bed - room is carpeted and the bed is pretty low - and now he wants to "jump" on our big bed. No bueno. He is a crazy man - I can only imagine what life would be like if he had an older sib to egg him on or lay blame on. L's blame-shifting is so funny. The things toddlers think they can get away with!
