Hey ladies! Anyone have any advice for me for my 1st appointment with an RE. I just hit my 12 month ttc point and I don't really know what to expect beyond this mark.

More so than likely they will go over your history, family history..
At mine he did a pelvic exam and blood work...
Ask to have cycle day 3 and 21 day blood work that can tell you a lot

Mine met with my husband and I and talked about our situation, looked at our previous test results, talked about what further testing she wanted, and formulated a plan. No exam.

Before I went to the RE, I had done an HSG, 3 day and 21 day bloodworks, and DH had done a sperm analysis. My RE did a pelvic ultrasound during our first appt and also went over all of these tests. If we hadn't done the tests already, he would have ordered them. We then came up with a plan of action. Your age and test results will factor into the aggressiveness of the plan.

@littleredhairedgrl: I decided to completely go over my Ob's head. I feel like she wasn't really giving me all the info I needed and I just decided to take things into my own hands. I feel like she should have ordered an ultrasound or something.

@raintreebee: I see. This is great to know. I already feel better for making an appointment. My OB wasn't being very helpful.

@LoveHope: Good for you for taking initiative on your own. I was begging and pleading with my OB to send me to a RE after my miscarriages, and after my 4th miscarriage in 5 pregnancies and he still wouldn't send me, I told him I was going with or without his recommendation, but it would be easier with his recommendation. He referred me to someone who was FANTASTIC, and did so much to figure out what was going on. She listened to my concerns, ordered every blood test possible and did a good amount of testing on me as well to rule out absolutely everything.
As a result, she realized that my uterus was covered in scar tissue that was likely making me miscarry. I had surgery to remove it, she monitored my cycles after that and I'm now 20 weeks with my sixth pregnancy, and hopefully 2nd living child.

@LoveHope: I was at this point last August. DH and I were 26/27, been trying for a year using opk, fertility monitor, old wives tales, legs in the air etc... I made my first apt, and had no clue what to expect. I went early in my cycle. The first day, I filled out paperwork concerning my cycles, lifestyle, family history. Then, I met the RE. She was sweet, warm, and went over my family history. She explained she was going to do bloodwork, and an ultrasound that day. After the ultrasound, she said I was borderline PCOS. I was worried she would give me grief for being a good 15lbs overweight, but she didn't even weigh me or blink an eye. Then she scheduled an HSG for the next week on cd 12 (the latest she said I could get the procedure done), and a sperm analysis for DH.
I suspected I had low progesterone, and maybe even PCOS, and the OB wasn't taking it seriously since I'm "young." The RE immediately brought it up, and recommended clomid the next cycle. I ended up getting pregnant after the HSG from my second apt, and am 36 weeks now. It was a very easy simple process, and I felt very comfortable to have a plan after that first apt. Good luck, there are supportive bees on this board who can share their insight.

@dc yoga bee: thank you for sharing.i just turned 30 and I feel my OB isn't really giving me every test possible. Immediately after making an appointment, someone called me and spoke to me. I just felt like they really take things more seriously. After all, this is a struggle for us and it should be taken seriously.

Quick update: im getting an HSG, pelvic ultrasound done and my husband is getting a semen analysis done. Is there any specific order we need to get these done?

@LoveHope: Ask your RE, but mine needed to do it by cd 12. Also, be mindful if you or your SO travels. My RE wanted us to take the night of the test off, and then immediately start having sex. Then dye used during the HSG is supposedly a fertility booster, and the HSG is supposed to increase fertility for the next three months. I had the test on a Tuesday, DH was out of town until Thursday, but then I got pregnant on Friday. My RE said sometimes you just need your "pipes flushed." It doesn't work for everyone, but it's a possibility so try not to travel Afterwards!
The pelvic ultrasound was done at my first apt, and DH did his SA the week before my hsg, because it worked out like that with his travel schedule. He had to not release for 24-48 hours before the test (I don't remember), so try not to schedule it during fertile week!
Also, it sounds like your first apt went well?

@dc yoga bee: I still didn't meet with the RE. I could only get an appointment for June 19th so my OB is running these tests to get a head start. At least this wAy when I meet my RE for the first time, he'll have most of my tests in hand.
