Baby G was four days ago and tomorrow is getting aortic augmentation. I am a useless ball of emotions right now. We knew he was going to need surgery at about 24 weeks but nothing really prepares you for hearing the surgery is tomorrow.

The waiting is really hard. I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow and sending positive energy your way.

@Ms. RV: I haven’t been through heart surgery, but I have had both my babies go through major surgery as newborns. Nothing prepares you for it, but I have found the nurses, anesthesia teams, and surgeons who worked with both my boys to be some of the kindest medical people we have ever met. I’m thinking of you and praying you get the best possible care and that everything goes quickly and smoothly. Please keep us updated!

Okay. Major panic mode. G's roomie's parents showed up and not only are they eating in the room (not allowed) they have major head colds. I am terrified G is going to pick up some bug from them before his surgery. Luckily he will be moved to a private room post op.

@Ms. RV: I'd make a nurse aware. That's not OK. You need as much peace as possible right now

@MamaBear87: She was out for a while with G while he got an MRI but is back now. I told her my concerns. She said to make sure I have my valuables put away and that she will talk to them about both. Nurse hinted their baby is in here because mom is a user

That all sounds very stressful, and I'm sorry your family is having to go through it. Thinking about you and Baby G today! I hope the surgery and recovery go smoothly.

Jeez like you needed that extra stress. Thinking of you. I know the worry is probably unbearable. Don't fight it but breathing and repeating positive (realistic) mantras always help me ("he is the best care I could provide him; we will get through this").

Thinking of you! My son had an aortic arch advancement when he was 1 month and while it was scary, I knew he would be better after the surgery, so that helped me feel some peace about it. I hope everything is going smoothly!

Thanks for all of the well wishes. It honestly helped. I ended up not sleeping at all (didn't even try). The surgery went soooo well. He has a million wires and tubes and is on a vent but is doing great coming off the anesthesia/sedation. We were encouraged to come home tonight, which we did.
And how I can tell I am exhausted? I legit yelled at Daniel Tiger for standing on the bed on TV.
Oh and his CICU room is private but I think we might be just coming during the day. He has a private nurse to fuss over him at night.

@Ms. RV: so glad it went well! The lead up is always the worst part. Glad you get to be home. Hope you get some sleep!

My boss's 3yo had open heart surgery almost two weeks ago. My boss came back to work on Monday, so I asked how his son was doing. He said he's fine and you would never even know he'd had surgery. He seemed shocked by how quickly he bounced back.
My thoughts are with your baby!
