So a couple of weeks ago DH and I were out walking to the grocery store with LO in a sling. A neighbour who was arriving home approached us to look at the baby. We chatted for a bit and found out she has a son about 10 weeks older than ours. She seemed really nice, introduced herself and asked which number we were in and if we had any sort of schedule. I told her we didn't have one established yet and to stop by anytime.
I got the impression she would pop round soon, but it's been about two weeks and I haven't seen her since.
Should I stop by her place and say hello or drop a note in her mailbox inviting her over at a specific time? What would you do?

I would go in person first, then do a note if she's not home.

Id drop a note in her mailbox with an open invitation as well as your phone number.If it were me in her shoes, I might feel uncomfortable just popping in even after the coversation for fear that the baby is sleeping or something, so an ivite and number would help. That way Id text and say "hey its Kelly! Was thinking of popping by"

@LivsMama: That was my thinking... I know I'm hesitant to stop by hers for fear of disturbing their routine, so I imagine she feels the same. A note with my number seems a good way to make contact without intruding...

@regberadaisy: Im the opposite - Im very outgoing, but I worried about making mommy friends too. Even though there were a ton of moms at the playground near me, I was alwyas too shy (SO not like me) to walk over and chat. One day, one of the moms started talking to me while we were pushing the babies on the swings, then suddenly I was swarmed. They were SO friendly. So if you can get to a park or playground, try that. They all started the conversations with the baby "oh, so cute! How old is she, whats her name, etc? By the way, Im Jennifer!" and it was like instantly not uncomfortable.

Yay for making mommy friends! I think either way would be nice. I do hate when people wake LO up from her nap.... but if it's for a good reason they're always forgiven.

@MegWag: I'd stop by. Just say hi and see if she wants to spend a few minutes chatting. Btw...don't put a note IN her mailbox, it's against the law.

@MegWag: Ah yes, I forgot you weren't in the US. Yeah, here it is illegal to open anyone's mailbox but your own. Only mail people are supposed to put stuff in them. People who put flyers and such out either stick them under the flags or thumb tack them to the wood posts.

@mediagirl: Huh... I never knew that and I lived in the US for 30 years! I knew it was illegal to open someone else's mail, but had never heard about the mailbox... you learn something new every day!

i think sticking a note in the door slot would be great so you don't disturb the baby. i hope you made a new friend!!

Do you notice her out walking at any specific time of day? Is there a way you can time your walks when she's out so you can "accidentally" bump into each other and then just walk together or go to the park for a bit? Then nobody has to go to the other person's house and it's on more neutral ground. Then, you can take it from there?

@eeh: I haven't seen her at all since that day. Whenever I go out I sort of lamely linger as I'm passing her place, hoping she'll seeme and come out to say hello... Cause I'm a lose. hahaha

I would drop by and knock quietly (since she has a LO). If you don't get an answer, I would leave a note.

UPDATE!
I ran into the neighbour at the grocery store today! We went through the checkout line together and then she asked if I wanted to get a coffee in the in-store cafe! We chatted for over an hour and made plans to go to a baby group at the local children's centre on Tuesday! Then she stopped by this evening to drop off some home-made chicken schnitzel!
I'm excited and use lots of exclamation points!! -
