No, we never have mashed potatoes. We do homemade mac and cheese instead.
Growing up, my mom never made mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving because she never thought they were special enough. She made them a lot on weeknights for dinner.
Our Thanksgiving dishes are usually things we only eat that time of year. I like it that way because it feels more special to me.

Mashed potatoes are a must! Mine are fancy and I only make them over thanksgiving & Xmas!

@.twist.: fancy how? Share your recipe. I sautee onions and mushrooms and mix in cream cheese and sometimes cheddar and fresh dill

Yep, it is a staple for us! We don't do mac and cheese ever though. That sounds tasty too! Given the choice between the two I'd probably choose mac and cheese but I think my family would revolt

Must have! I eat mashed and sweet potatoes, mac and cheese and stuffing. Carb overload!!!!
