So the Trikester never spit up when he burped, but this past week he's had more and more spit-up come up when we burp him, and also more that shows up an hour or so after nursing. Now today he's spitting up massive amounts (volume wise) - it's soo much more than before. Ive been following an dairy free diet for a week and a half, and a soy-free diet for five days. He's six weeks old today. What gives? Any ideas on what causes an increase in spitting up?

When he spits a bunch, is it right after he eats or an hour after? Does he have reflux?

I think we had this around the 6 week mark as well. Our doc said it was pretty normal as they increase their milk intake. It just takes a while for the to regulate how much they actually need to be eating. I believe the main concern is if it is projectile vomiting.

Does he seem like he's in pain at all? My LO started spitting up a lot between 6 weeks - 4 months. I was in a bit of oversupply at the time. I was really worried it was reflux but i was told that as long as my LO was gaining fine with enough poopy/wet diapers, and the spit up wasn't causing any pain, then it was just a laundry issue. The spit up miraculously stopped just after 4 months.

@Baby Boy Mom: @Sammyfab: I think it might be a supply issue. Pretty sure he went through a massive growth spurt over the last week and it messed with my supply, so maybe held just getting used to a new amount. I don't think he's in pain, so hopefully not a big deal. I am starting to smell like rotten milk so I think a shower and a change of clothes is in order!

I think you are doing everything you can. See what happens in about 2 weeks off both things. If you aren't seeing improvement then you can determine if there is something else to go off of. Keep up the good work.
Note: the immediate spitup is reflux and if it doesn't hurt it isn't an issue. One thing that I noticed with our MSPI was that the reflux symptom started later 1 - 3 hours after eating. So that's why I think you are doing good going off common allergies.
You could go to the doctor's and get a reflux test. They give him a bottle with stuff in it and then put him under an x-ray and see if he refluxes.

My LO is only 4 weeks, but we're having the same thing and also coming off a growth spurt. Her doc said that its probably two things. First, she's probably taking in more air than usual as she gulps down my temporary oversupply and second, she may be overeating a bit with it. He said to ride it out, but in the meantime to burp her extra well and keep her upright for 10 minutes after eating. He also suggested expressing a little beforehand to prevent the gasping at first.

Do you have any indications that he might be eating more than before? Spitting up definitely came in waves with our daughter, but it was definitely more common when she increased her food intake.

LO is a big spitter too. At first we felt it was just an inconvenience as she didn't cry but now we are starting to think its causing her more discomfort than we know. She is such a good baby she really only cries when she's hungry so I think he just doesn't cry even though it hurts her. She grunts and squirms and arches her head and back. So we are doing to the doc tomorrow to discuss Zantac. At least for a few weeks until the dairy gets completely out of my system. I feel so bad for the poor girl. Bit as long as Trikester has no signs of discomfort and is coninuing to gain weight I wouldn't worry too much.
