So I just read an article about how they are expecting there to be many more cases of measles this year. They attribute it to people coming into the country from areas where measles is prevalent and the fact that more people are not vaccinating. I have a close friend who has chosen to delay some vaccines, including the measles vaccine. I'm worried about my 4 month old being around her child. Is this valid or am I being paranoid?

There have been more outbreaks, due to more travel and less people keeping the vaccination schedule. But, as long as your friends' baby or your baby aren't exposed, they should be fine. Plus, your LO should be getting the booster soon, if you LI hasn't already had one.

I take a hard line with vaccinations. I worry less now that my girls have their vaccines, but with a baby who is not fully vaccinated, I'd refuse to see them.

@mrsbookworm: I understand the paranoia. Even though LO is vaccinated there was a measles outbreak here in late spring/early summer in the next neighborhood over and I didn't even want to step foot in that area. (And I didn't!) The outbreak was for the reason you read in that article, I think there was a kid from England who came and infected a bunch of kids who hadn't been vaccinated.
Maybe this seems overly cautious but I wouldn't see your friend until either her baby is vaccinated or yours is.

To keep in perspective, there were approx 129 cases in the US this year. I think chances are slim your friends child would be exposed, and subsequently expose your child.
I wouldn't be super concerned, especially if their LO is not in school yet.
Also, what's not to say your LO wouldn't come into contact with unvaccinated children elsewhere......play group, storytime etc. I know that I don't ask the vaccination status of every child that B plays with at those events.
I'm sure this topic will bring heated debate.

I think your fears are valid, especially depending on where you live. There have been many serious, large-scale measles outbreaks in some areas of the US and Europe - but certainly cases everywhere.
I know some people say "well we don't travel, so we're safe!" but it isn't just the people you come in contact with - it's also everyone they came in contact with, and we live in an international world.
If you are uncomfortable, I would stand my ground.
