Most of the moms in our neighborhood have kids much older than DS. (ms - hs, college).

There's one mom friend down the street, but she's a nurse and we work such opposite schedules I rarely ever see her or the kids!

The house across the street just got rented out and it seems like they have kids our age, but haven't met them yet!

I have trouble with this because I live in the city so my neighborhood has lot of office buildings and it's hard to know who really actually lives here if they are just walking down the street. I've been trying to be friendlier to other parents of toddlers at the local playgrounds and I recently joined a facebook group and a meetup group for local moms, however I haven't actually met anyone from online yet. It's tough because most of the meetups are during the week for SAH or part-time working moms, and I am full-time WOH.

A few of my neighbors have kids, but they are all older than H. The majority of the people who live in my neighborhood are much older and their kids are adults. On the plus side, it's quiet, but it means that I don't have a lot of mom friends in the area.

I feel really lucky because a new family just moved in next door and they have 4 kids including a son 6 months older than DS and a newborn son! The mom is really nice and I'm hoping their kids will be playmates for DS.

I'm pretty lucky that there are tons of families nearby. In ten houses there are nine kids under four and two more arriving by the end of summer.
Having a long mat leave helps too. We're all at the same classes, story times, etc. together for a year.

I've found being proactive helps a lot. I host play groups and that way there isn't a lot of pressure to click instantly with one person. When I meet a new person I think I would get along with or someone in our group would get along in I just extend an invite.

@regberadaisy: thats so cool! I just made a move on a mom for the first time today! ha! I was chatting with her at a indoor playground and we kind of clicked so I asked her if she wanted to do a playdate and asked her for her email. I was kind of nervous to do it! But since we moved 6 months ago, I don't have many friends in our new town and have to kind of put myself out there.

I tend to see the same parents over and over again at our closest park...but I feel like I don't have time for an actual friendship! I hardly see the mom friends I already have-- between my job and my toddler and my pregnancy and my husband's long hours, I just suck at having time.

I've met the same 3 moms with kids my LOs IN MY BUILDING about a thousand times now and I still haven't made the leap to offering to meet up some time (planned) because I just don't have a lot of time. Although I want to--maybe on my maternity leave?

it's so hard making new mom friends! We're relatively new to our neighborhood and moved in the dead of winter. I really have to get out of my comfort zone to give my contact info to moms at the park.

I'm lucky that at nearly 3 years old, my oldest DD helps break the ice by playing with other kids. But I feel like the only other moms who really go out of their way to chat while our kids play (or take the chatting beyond the park to a playdate) are the ones who are also new and need new friends

@catlady: I hear you! sometimes the FB books are just too specific. In my case I feel like the ones that are active are for younger babies...and while I have a 13 month old, it's mostly first time moms in the groups and I feel like I'm crashing their peaceful get togethers when I show up with a boisterous toddler

Most of our neighbors have grown up kids and grandchildren. It does mean that it's a pretty quiet street, which we like, but it would be nice to have a few kids nearby too.

I've tried to reach out to parents with kids around DD's age when we see them at the park, but no success so far. Either they're already with other friends and aren't interested in talking to someone else, or if they're also there alone, just aren't that friendly. I'm looking forward to the fall because DD is going to be in our neighborhood cooperative preschool program, and I've heard it's the best way to make friends with other parents/kids in the area. It's just one day a week for an hour and a half, and at least one parent or caregiver has to be there with each kid. They also do occasional meet-ups for all the classes on the weekends. I know there's no guarantee I'll actually like the parents of the other kids in DD's class, but at least it's a time where we can (and are supposed to) get to know each other a bit.

We know several neighbors with young kids and it has been great for sharing babysitters when daycare/schools are closed for holidays, snow days and breaks. (Our daycare is like a preschool and closes allllll the time.) They are all really nice and we like them a lot! But we just stay so busy that we don't really have intentional play dates or get togethers. We just run into each other on the playground or going for walks and catch up then.

I would have liked to make better friends with other moms in our neighborhood but we are moving now. I hope to meet lots of other moms where we move - finding a friendly family oriented neighborhood is a really big priority for me, especially since I will be staying home!
