Hi Memphis bees! I'm coming on a business trip for a couple days and will be staying downtown, close to Beale Street. I've never been to Memphis before, so I'd love some recommendations on places to eat and things to do! I won't have a car, since I'm working very close to where the hotel is so my boss didn't want to get rental cars...so everything needs to be easily accessible. I'm coming in today and leaving early Thursday. Thanks!

Soul food/fried chicken - Gus's Fried Chicken
Traditional Memphis BBQ - Redendezvous or Central BBQ
Thai/sushi - Bangkok Alley
Fun gastropubs - Bardog, Local, and SOB -South of Beale
Amazing wine/beer flight pairings - Flight
Upscale/modern soul food - McEwens
Upscale Creole - Itta Bena
Classic Memphis (and a favorite of Elvis) - Arcade. Delicious breakfast here too.
For Lunch - Johnny G's Creole Kitchen
Coffee shop - Bluff City Coffee
Italian - Spindini
Pizza/Italian subs - Aldo's
Desserts - Cheesecake Corner
Best dive in Memphis - Earnestine & Hazels. Try a Soul Burger
And the quintessential thing to do in Memphis (after you eat BBQ of course) is to hit up Silky O'Sullivans for a diver.

I second everything @Boheme said and also want to add Majestic Grille. It is on Main street and they have delicious brunch/lunch/dinner!

@Boheme: that's a pretty amazing list, no way will I get to all those but I'm going to try to do as much as I can! I definitely want to get BBQ one night and Flight sounds awesome so I think I'll try to do that another night. Question, though -- what's a diver?

If you're trying to choose between the two BBQ restaurants, Rendezvous is known for their dry rub/ribs, and Central is known for their pulled pork and nachos. I'm a Central girl, personally!
