I just watched them on the uneven bars. I didn't notice their hair was messy.

It is messy and it is the style for american gymnastics right now. Nastia is the main reason for it. She had the messiest hair at Olympic Trials.

@highwire: Me too. It just looks so sloppy. Of course I am sure every single piece was perfectly chosen. These are workout styles NOT competition styles.

I totally noticed this too! Its reaalllly annoying to me haha. I'm so accustomed to seeing perfect ponytails or buns. Kids these days!

McKayla's hair bothers me the most because she's got a giant tail hanging out the bottom underneath the loop. I don't mind Gabby's or Kyla's because there isn't a lot going on under the bun/loop part. I don't know why they can't just wear buns, though!

I noticed it, too, and it bothered me. Silly, but I feel like you should represent yourselves, and our country, a bit better than that.

I didn't mind Ali's hair, more of a messy bun, however I'm like you are in the Olympics, do something with your hair to the pony under! I think some do that so the ponytail doesn't "whip" and hit htem in the face or distract them, however that is what a bun is for!

No one minded the scrunchies? I could handle the messy hair but the scrunchy- on global tv--whaaaaa?????

@JHoller25: This is gymnastics, yo! Scrunchies are de rigueur, especially for the Eastern Block/former Soviet countries. It is the same principle that lends itself to other gymnastic canons such as blue eyeshadow, glitter hairspray/gel, and insane amounts of snap barettes to tame every last random hair.

Haha I said the SAME thing last night - I'd much rather see a full pony tail or a nice bun, the half tuck looks like they overslept for a final exam to me.

i said the same thing last night! why was the bun so messy? they all have tons of makeup but the hair is horrible!

I think that I was so spoiled by Make It or Break It where they always have wonderful hairstyles... I expected them to hair it tightly braided into a bun or even slicked back and some type of updo in the back. I agree it didn't look very good... but whatever, I guess that's just how they like their hair and that's their choice...

It's turned into a race thing... People are saying the complaints are about her African-American hair rather than a messy hair thing!

They all had sloppy hair - I think every US gymnast was sporting the same style.
