Has anyone done this? My4yo got invited to one, I’m not sure so parents stay? Would you leave your 4yo at something like this? It also said wear messy clothes? What will they be doing? How messy is it??

I didn’t follow through but looked into it - you can view sample parties on their website (not sure if there may be other options too). I’d guess the clothes are a precaution I don’t remember any seeming super messy. My oldest is a clinger so I would stay (and expect to help with crafts)

I can't imagine it being any different than any other birthday parties hosted at a location -- the kids will probably make crafts (under direction from a teacher/attendant), play some games, and eat cake. Wear messy clothes I think they mean play clothes, not a princess fairy gown that you can't ruin. Something you would have your child wear to an art class.
I don't think I have seriously dropped off my child at a party before he was 5 so I wouldn't mind staying, or stay close. It will be inside an "event room" inside the store. The one at our location is basically like a pretty nice meeting / class room with glass "walls" that you can look in from outside (but our store is also brand new). When you take your LO there, observe what they are doing and if everything is manageable and LO is comfortable, I would roam around the store and shop as they are having their party. I am an illustrator /designer so I can easily spend 2 hours in Michaels
I haven't been to one but I have seriously looked into it before and thought it was a very attractive option to throw a birthday party! Very budget friendly too. The reason I haven't thrown one is really because 1. I am never a fan of creating a lot of little junks (already have enough from school, and more that DS makes at home), DS takes them home and I never know if I should keep them or throw them away; 2. Yes the Michaels location is still a little "different" as a birthday party venue (I have heard of home depot or lowes birthday parties too, heard it is cool but have never been to one). Can you keep us posted and let me know what you think about it afterwards?
