DD's middle name is my middle name, and DS's is DH's middle name. When we have a third, his/her middle name will be my Grandma's maiden name. I guess we do like the middle names we chose, but it wasn't a huge requirement. They were just names with a lot of signifigance to us that we wanted to pass on to our kids.

Could you honor your grandma by using her middle name or her maiden name, instead? Maybe using a variation of Audrey? Or another name that sounds like Audrey, like Audrianna, Adrienne, etc...?

I'm big on family middle names, I like them to have meaning. Our LO's middle name will be Rhea which is my great grandma's maiden name (family tradition for first girl born.) If we have a boy we will use DH's brother's name who passed away. If we have another girl, we will use my middle name.

There's a family tradition of the first girl born in each family from my husband's mom side. When BIL's had their first girl they did not honor the tradition. Not only that they gave her a middle name after his ex wife's step mom who isn't even that great to her! Then they used it for their second daughter. I felt like by doing so they $hitted on the tradition! I was so pissed that they couldn't respect it enough to give it to their first born but then took it so we couldn't honor it the way it should be.

We don't know what we are having but if it's a girl the middle name with be Elizabeth which was mine and my mother's middle name. If it's a boy it will probably be Paul after my husband's grandfather but it will depend on what we pick for a first name.

@travelgirl1: I think if it's very important to you, you should tell your DH that. I feel like middle names aren't used as often, so it's really not as big of a deal if one person or the other doesn't like them, but maybe that's just me...

DS's middle name is my MIL's maiden name. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but we really wanted to use a name from his mom's side (DS's first name is a family name from his dad's side), and it was the one I liked the most. It's grown on me, especially since it's a middle name so it's not said a lot--we call him by his first name, not by his middle or first name middle name.

We used my Gramma's name, for the same reason. My husband didn't mind. And that way, all 3 of us have the middle initial "L", like we're a club

We used family names. We're having a boy and his middle name will be John after my husband, his father, and his grandfather. If it was a girl, it would have been Frances after my mother, who passed away 6 years ago. DH originally cringed when he heard that name because he had temporarily forgotten that was my mother's name, but once he remembered why, he was totally fine with it.

Ours is random. I really wanted to give her my middle name but it didn't go with her first name. We ended up choosing a name we both liked after reading through name books. We needed something with one syllable.

Ours is a mix of our dads names... Arthur+Richard=Archer

We've already decided that all MN's for our LO's will be family. The way we've decided to handle which side of the families are "used" is that theoretically DH gets the first boy (his, his dad's and his g-pa's MN) and I get the first girl (my mom's MN). However, if we have two of the same gender then we'll just let whoever didn't get to go the first time have that. So, for second boy would be my choice or second girl would be DH's choice.

I adore the name Audrey! Toddler Girl has my grandmother's first name as her middle name and Wonder Baby shares a middle name with my mother and I. If we had had a boy, he would have had my husband's brother's first name as his middle name.

So yeah, we love family names in the middle!

We used a Korean name for our LO's middle name.

Oh I LOVE that name Audrey and it's such a nice way to commemorate your Gma! I'd have loved to use my gma's name but it's so common, Amy, and I already have a BFF and another aunt with the same name.
DH wanted to use either of his parent's names for our kids' middle names. He said it would their main legacy (in a name) so I was fine with it. Obv, it made my in-laws SUPER happy!

For our first daughter we used both our grandmother's names. For our second daughter, we chose a middle name that was inspired by, but not exactly a number of family members' names. That way it honored his mom, my great great aunt, my other grandma without being exactly their names. Everyone loved it.

LO's middle name is my grandmother's name, she passed away while I was pregnant and that made us think about honoring her in that way. Otherwise we were leaning toward using Elizabeth, which is my mom, my MIL, and my middle name.

DD's middle name is a random name that DH suggested when we were thinking up names but I wasn't sold on as a first name. DS's middle name is sort of tradition in my husband's family; all the males have "George" as one of their names yet I again wasn't sold on it as a first name so it became his middle name.
