If you drive a van like a honda odyssey or a Town and Country, where do you have your infant car seat? we plan to rent a van of an upcoming road trip and I'm not sure if the middle row or back row is the safest

I'm wondering the same thing. We drive a Toyota Sienna, and I don't know if I should put the car seat in one of the middle row bucket seats or in the middle all the way in the back. I know if I put it in the back it's going to be a big pain getting the baby in and out.

@Mrsbells: @Arden: I'm not a certified technician or anything, but I have heard that as long as you get a good install, any position is really ok. Some people say the middle of the mini van is the safest, but that might be hard since the middle would be the removeable seat between the captain's chairs, and those seats are kind of tiny and maybe hard to get a good install. Your other option might be 3rd row, middle seat. We have our carrier in 2nd row, left captain's seat, Honda Odyssey.

I have never seen a car seat in the back row (unless the middle one is occupied, like with triplets)--I think accessibility would make it not very feasible for everyday use. Supposedly the driver's side is safest because your natural instincts while driving are to protect that side. But I know a lot of people like having a car seat on the right side so they can glance back while driving.

@tororojo: I actually have a carseat in the back row, outboard, but I agree it's not the most accessible. It was mainly due to my daughter wanting to sit next to her grandma when we all ride together, and that's only possible in the back row since I have an infant carrier in the 2nd row already. It is completely safe though. There's latch on all of those seats so that's the great thing about the Odyssey.

Thanks everyone! Since I also wondered abot accessibilty for the back row. We may do the middle row if that will be easier. its only for a few days anyway
