I'm so so sorry that happened to you! I had a missed miscarriage too. I miscarried at 6 weeks and didn't find out until 12. Since it obviously wasn't happening naturally for me, they gave me the choice between a pill or D&C. I tried the pill first (For me I think I wanted to deal with the physical pain of it to help me deal with the emotional pain... if that makes any sense). I tried too different pills but that didn't work, so I had to get the D&C. And then that didn't work. Apparently I had sticky placenta, but I like to think my baby didn't want to leave me. The second D&C she used an ultrasound to make sure everything was out, you can see the uterus lining thin out when it happens. It was her first time ever to have this happen to a patient and it's very rare, but I would still ask your doctor if you can have an ultrasound during the D&C to make sure it doesn't happen to you. 1) You don't want to have to go through the experience of a D&C twice and 2) It was not fun after the first D&C because my body was bleeding like crazy to try to get everything out, but it wouldn't come out, so the bleeding was just nuts. I couldn't leave my house for fear that I would bleed all over everything and that's just embarrassing.

I really think it's a personal decision. Either way, it might not go as you plan and you might have to get a D&C anyway. But if I could do it again I wouldn't change it, I would try the pills again first.

So sorry to hear about your missed miscarriage.. its sad when you think everything is fine and then find out that you lost the baby. I dont know much about D&C so I cant advice, but good luck eitherway and praying for a sticky baby for you soon

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I went through 2 miscarriages and I know how hard it is emotionally. I chose to wait for it to pass naturally and it was pretty painful for a few hours (while my uterus contracted). It felt like very heavy period cramping for me. But it eventually passed on its own. I'm sorry you have to go through this. I chose to have it pass naturally but one of the biggest downsides of it was that I had to wait a few days for it pass. And it was really hard living those days knowing that I was still carrying the baby in my stomach. A close friend of mine decided to do the D&C immediately when she had her miscarriage because she couldn't carry the baby for a few days knowing how it would all end. I say go with whatever you feel is right for you. I'm sorry for your loss.

The only experience I have is from two diff gfs.... one had a natural and said it felt like a really bad period...

The other had 2 separate m/c's - 1 was natural and 1 was d/c... she tried avoiding the d/c the first time around, but said that it was the most paintful experience of her life... and chose the d/c option the second time it happened.

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. Do what feels right for you. But I'll share my experience. I had a blighted ovum. Lost the baby around 8 weeks, but didn't find out until I thought I was 11 weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't really have a choice w/ taking a pill or D&C. They were concerned I could've had a molar pregnancy because of some non-smooth tissue the tech could see in an U/S. So I had to have a D&C so the tissue could be sent to pathology. Thank goodness it wasn't molar. That scared the crap out of me. The D&C wasn't too bad. I was put completely under. I would say the worst part was waking up after being put under and the uncomfortableness I felt from the catheter. I had light bleeding at first and then it was pretty heavy. I bled a total of 10 days. I did have some painful cramping towards the end and I would pass large clots of blood which lasted about two days. I think I would've rather passed it naturally or with the help of a pill only to avoid the surgery. It took 8 weeks for me to get my first period. Of course everyone is different and you will have a different experience with it.

Some women find more closure with a D&C. They don't have to wait and be in limbo waiting for it to occur naturally. It's all a personal choice though. Make the decision that feels right for you. I wish you all the best.

ETA: Being put under wasn't bad. They first gave me something to relax me. The nurse asked me what I wanted to dream about and asked me questions. Before I knew it I was waking up in recovery.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I went through the same thing last month - the baby grew until about 8.5 weeks, and we found out at what was supposed to be 10 weeks. My doctor (whom I really trust) strongly suggested the D&C since it was not happening naturally. I went with his suggestion, and had the surgery the same day. They gave me IV meds to sedate me, and then fully "put me under" in the OR. I believe that they put me completely out because they wanted to intubate me, since I have asthma. But, it wasn't bad at all. By the time they wheeled me back to the OR, I was so relaxed, they had to wake me up to move me on to the table.

Oh, I'm so sorry I have no advice, but just wanted to send you more virtual hugs...

We miscarried in August and did neither. We made the choice to use the pills to induce the miscarriage. 4 pills are inserted vaginally and it starts the miscarriage. It was all done in a matter of 4-6 hours and the doctor prescribed pain pills for pain, nausea pills if needed for nausea. I didn't take the pains pills, but should have, and did take one of the nausea pills after I threw up. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. We had to make that decision and it was one of the hardest decisions I ever made.

So, so, so, so heartbreaking to not only hear about your miscarriage but to read all the responses of fellow hellobee-ers and their experiences as well. So glad for this community that can help you along and let you know that you're not alone in this painful time. I am so so sorry. So terrible! I chose to have a d& c at 12 weeks, the baby died at 9 weeks. I am a very "natural" type person, so this was a hard decision for me. I just wanted to get it over with rather than constantly worrying about it starting, blood loss, etc. my recovery was not bad at all, but I was worried about scarring.
Seems like I'm alright though, took 4 months but I just got pregnant.

I'm really sorry to hear that this happened Sadly, you have company. I also found out I had a missed miscarriage March 2nd, Baby also stopped developing at 6w. My doctor offered Misoprostol tablets, which help induce the miscarriage to finish.

This is my 2nd time with Misoprostol and I have to say it was the right decision for me. I'll share my first experience...

I took 4 tablets of the Misoprostol (vaginally, to reduce the side effects associated with digesting the pills) at 5:30 and 800 mg of Ibuprofen for pain. I laid flat for about 1 1/2 hours to ensure the medication dissolved properly. I felt very light cramping around 8:00, but no bleeding. The cramps got a little stronger around 10:30, then I went to bed at 11:00.

At 2:00am I woke up with painful cramps. I got up to pee and took another dose of pain meds. Then at 2:20 I felt intense cramping. Stabbing cramps in my abdomen that burned like fire. I was sure it was a clot and I felt every movement. I got up to use the bathroom again. Sure enough a clot (about the diameter of a lime) passed and I felt a million times better. I went back to bed and found myself sleeping in little pain at all.

My 2nd experience was much better than the first. It only took a few hours and the pain wasn't nearly as bad. I had light to medium bleeding for about a week after.

Thanks ladies. I ended up taking 200 mg misoprostol orally. After 5 days, not much was happening. When I went in for a follow up, I ended up seeing a different doctor in the practice and he wanted to do a d&c that day. Despite my fear of anesthesia, I am really glad I had it done. I am 5 days out now, and I am glad I finally have some closure. Here's to trying again in a few months!
