DS started rejecting pacis around 3 months in favor of his thumb. He uses it to soothe himself to sleep and I am pretty sure sucks on it a great bit at daycare. Recently his poor little thumb has been bleeding because its so cracked and dried out. I put corona ointment on it because I don't want other stuff on it then he sticks it back in his mouth. I also have a sock over his hand. Any other ideas? I guess they were unaware of it bleeding at daycare and he bled all over his blanket today and I got a really long apology note! Not mad about that, but feel bad because his thumb probably hurts!!

Did you ever come up with a solution? Your poor LO's thumb! My LO is a big thumb sucker but thank goodness we never had to deal with that yet, she's 21 months.

DD sucks her thumb and preferred the left thumb. While we tried to limit thumb sucking at home, they didn't necessarily at daycare. She got to the point where I thought her thumbnail was going to fall off. We would put Lansinoh on her thumb and then put a sock over it at night (I'd put the sock on before I put on her PJs so that the sleeve would help hold the sock on her hand. During the day if we caught her sucking her thumb, we'd say "other one" and she would stop sucking her left and start sucking her right; not the best solution but it gave her left thumb time to heal.

DD is a thumb sucker too, only to go to sleep though. She only sucks her left thumb, luckily we have had no problems yet (she is 7 months). Embarrassingly enough I sucked my thumb to go to sleep until I was about 9, and had no issues with my thumb or teeth. Ironically, I used to only suck my left thumb too.... My mum thinks its cute that DD is the same hehe
