Hey Moms! H's hair is starting to grow, but it's growing in crazy. Only certain spots are getting longer, mainly the very top and the back at the sides. I don't really want to give her bangs because her hair is most likely curly (it is in the back, anyway) but how do you cut/style during this awkward mullet stage?

Here's a photo where you can see it growing on the top and back side, but the sides are really short.

DD had a reverse mullet that grew into a stacked bob. We kept her hair out of her face with a ridiculous collection of bows. Eventually it just all filled in.

We always just put a bow in it. Now her hair is pretty much even (14 months) but I usually give her a ponytail aka "whale sprout" to keep it out of her face. Baby hair is weird & my DD just had to look goofy for a while lol

Nothing. She wouldn't let us put anything in it. It looked ridiculous but who cares. LOL

My LOs hair grew really long only on the sides, and stayed short on the top and back, so it looked pretty crazy and I did pig tails every single day for months until I got tired of it, and took her to have it trimmed short all over so it could grow out more uniformly.
I'll delete these pics in a bit, but you can see the before pics with long side-hair and the after pics with short-all-over.

Lots of barrettes and bows.

Nothing. They both didn't/don't keep hair accessories in. It just looks gross until it fills in and becomes an appropriate length for a hair cut!

I just use lots of clips or ties to keep it out of her face (though I don't send these to daycare so she just has crazy hair there). DH has been telling me for months we should get it cut but I think in the long run that'll create more work/upkeep (and I don't want her to have bangs). So we're just letting it grow for now.

I trimmed the odd longer sections once so it would grow evenly. It was not much, though.

Hair clips! We had to trim her bangs recently, but she's got these long 'wings' on either side of her face that I'm just letting grow.
Bows can cover all sorts of hair issues! -
I just went with it. Now my daughter has long hair in the back, and I just trimmed her bangs a little too short in the front. She looks like Yo-Landi Visser. It is awesome. She gets lots of compliments from punky looking women.

Nothing until the front mullet got into her eyes. Then I trimmed that long part and it's more even. I think she'll have bangs until she learns to tolerate clips.

Little clips and sprouts. Her hair is in her eyes but like Lawbee11, we don't want the upkeep of bangs. So just waiting for them to grow out.

We used to put clips in E's hair and she looked so cute but when she was about 12 months she started ripping them out. We tried whale spouts but she ripped them out too so we had no option but to get a fringe (bangs) put in. She looks really cute!

Whale sprout-ers - what did you use? I'm afraid of making it too right or having the hair band snag her fine hair. My girl only has hair on top, aka Big Boo from OITNB.

@MamaChin: I bought a huge pack of the tiny elastic bands at our local dollar store. Before bath time, I just break the elastic instead of trying to pull them out. They're so cheap, I'm not worried about one time use.
Sadie's at a SUPER awkward length. She's got a mullet/rat tail thing going on. Her hair is curly and crazy too, so that adds to the fun. I don't even know what to do with it. Headbands/bows/clips don't even help.

I just waited it out with bows and clips. My mom kept bugging me to cut her hair but I'm glad I waited it out - it evened out and is down to the middle of her back at 21 months.

Just waited it out. Like pp, clips, bows, hair ties. K's hair is very fine, so she rocked a lot of funny side-top ponytails that I secured with Goody plastic elastics and then stuck a hair clip in (stayed better that way).

@MamaChin: We use tiny Goody elastics. I get them at Target. They come in a pack of three different sizes and we only use the tiniest ones.

We just used lots and lots of bows:) The tiny ones with the snap clips. And I had a travel/sampler pack from California Baby and they had some baby styling stuff for unruly hair that was very light:)

We just throw on a helmet. And sometimes a bow if we ate feeling fancy!
