Our kids are roughly the same age and at the moment, DS and DD share a room. I'm pretty sure the baby will be in our bedroom for the first year, and then move into their room and they'll all share. Everyone wants me around in bedtime so I'd probably lose my mind if they were in different rooms.

Eventually someone's moving out of that room, but it's going to be a few years so we only have a vague plan about how that will work.

I would keep the boys together. Our older siblings have never woken up from the baby crying.

I have DS, 3.5, and DD, 14 months, in the same room. They have been together since shortly after birth. Most of the time, neither wakes up the other when they are crying in the middle of the night. Several times, DS did wake up while I fed DD. I just put her in the crib, and then tucked in DS again.

We are in a 2 bedroom apartment and planning on trying for number 3 soon. If our timing works, DS will be 4.5, DD will be 27/28 months, and we will have a baby. DD will be moved to either the bottom bunk or the trundle and the new baby will take the crib. (We have bunk beds with a trundle in the room.) We will be moving out of our current area in two years and just plan to stay in the apartment until we move. New baby would be 13/14 months when we move if timing works on the first try.

I voted to let the boys share, but if your guest room isn't used often, I'd give them all their own rooms.

My step-daughter is 15 so she was never going to room-share with a baby :).
DS was 2 years, 2 months when DD was born. We kept DD in our room until she was a year, we were too worried DS would crawl in with her.
They've been room-sharing for a month now. Typically we put DS to bed first and I rock DD to sleep and sneak her into her crib. It does have it's challenges since I need to sleep-train her so she goes to bed sans rocking.

Eventually DSD will get a room in our basement (once finished) and then the two littles will get their own rooms.

We currently have DD1 (6) and DD2 (4) in their own bedrooms with a shared jack & jill bath in between. DD3 (18 months) has her own room, which also has a queen sized bed and it's own attached bathroom, and that room doubles as a guest room. She comes in with us when we have guests, but I'd also be comfortable putting her in with DD1. I would not allow her to sleep with DD2 because DD2 tends to have "too much love" and can be a little rougher than she intends to/up in DD3's face. That's one thing to consider, IMO - you might not really want to have DS1 unsupervised with DS2 while everyone is sleeping until you know how he acts around the baby.

When we started out, we had a dedicated guest room elsewhere in the house, but changed that into a more sound-proof office for DH. We intend to create a dedicated guest room again (when we finish our basement), but for now, I've prioritized each kid having their own space 99% of the time. If we were using the guest room for something else on a regular basis (gym, sewing room, office, etc.) I might be more apt to bunk up my kids...but I'd probably bunk up the older ones at least until baby was walking or in a toddler bed.

I would wait to decide once your third has arrived and you can see how well he sleeps. If there is room you could keep the bed in the guest room and add the crib. If you have guests they could sleep in your room and you could go in the baby's room.

So I just put my kids together (4 years and almost 2 years) about a month ago and it has been a huge lifesaver. I only knew one person growing up who had a guest room, and I spent plenty of time sleeping in rooms that a cousin or other family member got kicked out of/getting kicked out of my own room so a guest room wasn’t a priority. Bedtime is so much easier now, and all the laundry is in one room. DD2 wakes up screaming a lot still, and she rarely wakes DD1 (if she wakes up she just pulls her blanket over her head and goes back to sleep). If a guest room is a priority I would bunk the two older ones together now and then swap rooms later to have a same gender room or give everyone their own room when they’re older and you might have fewer visitors.

I'd prioritize my kids having their own rooms over having a dedicated guest room.

I like the idea of every child having their own room in theory.

In practice, I have three kids (4 bedroom home), and my boys share a room. Our fourth bedroom is used as an office/craft room/storage landfill lol. If we had overnight guests, which we literally never do, we would be using that room as a guest room as well.

My boys are 5 and 2.5 and we also have a 1 year old DD. The boys never had an issue sharing a room. There was even a point where all three kids had to share one room, for reasons out of our control, and it was fine as well.

If the guest room is needed, I would bunk two together without a second thought....and pick whichever child sleeps best in with the baby (whichever one will sleep through crying).

We have 3 boys (not that I think gender matters, when they're little I think its fine for diff genders to share). We have 4 bedrooms but wanted to keep one a guest (it's tiny, my husband takes call, etc). So, we moved DS2 in with DS1 when he was 28 months (DS1 was just about 5). It's been a year and they seem to love it. We moved them in about 2 months before DS3 was born, just to get them used to it. DS3 even slept in our room for 6 months so we could've kept DS2 in there for longer....but we didn't want him to associate baby with taking his room/crib/etc.

We’re on the 2 week countdown for #3 and just put our 5 and 2.5 year old together. Right now they’re in their crib and regular bed because we’re still finishing the bunks but we’ll move them in that room eventually. Baby will be in our room for a while but we wanted more places for people to sleep. I would probably just put the crib in the guest room with everything and also give the older two a few tries at sharing the room once the middle one gets a little older.
