Screaming during pushing. And everyone (but me) laughing when I squeezed the nurse's hand so hard she screamed, too.

I was not prepared for an unmedicated birth.

@bluestriped bee: Feeling the baby's head like it's a bowling ball inside me (felt it 3 times before she was born). I was so surprised! She was my VBAC.
And 2nd is when they handed her to me and she had this adorable bubbling cry, but I felt like "I did it!" when I felt her head come down, not when it came out!

With my son, it was some time when I was pushing, epidural in so I was not pushing all that well--and I asked "does he have any hair?" and the nurse midwife said "yes!" and I knew he was coming soon (I was wrong).

I remember cracking jokes in between contractions all through labor. I was in transition with an increasing need to push....
    "I need to push"
    "Don't push"
    "Why can't I push"
"Dr isnt here yet and I dont want to deliver your baby"
    "That's a you problem"

The look on my husband's face as my son came out. In 9 yrs I've never seen my husband cry but in that moment his eyes were full of tears.

The 3 things I said right after they put him on my chest.
    1. "We made this"
    2. "I can't believe I did it" ( pain med free)
    3. "We saved $800" (I wanted to hire a doula but my husband didnt want to spend the money.)

The standout memory for me is, after being at 5cm at the last check about 2 hours earlier, and then having about an hour of excruciating, wracking contractions during which we could not get a nurse to respond to the call button, a nurse finally came in, and I told her, "if I didn't know better, I'd say I'm going through transition. If not, I think I'm going to need to talk to someone about some pain relief." She offered to check me, and as she was about to, my OB came into the room to see how things were going. The nurse filled her in, and then reported that she could feel just a small lip of the cervix. I can still hear the high, surprised voice in which my doctor exclaimed, "LIP!?!"

I also remember exchanging a look with my husband while I was pushing, as the (MANY) nurses in the room cheered me on. It wasn't the time to laugh, but he knew that under any other circumstances, I would have been rolling my eyes and chortling at their enthusiastic antics, and I knew that he knew, and we just kind of smirked at each other.

Everything happened so quickly for me that a lot of it was a blur! But the two stand-out memories are when I realized that I could see the reflection in my OB's glasses (baby girl had so much hair), and him asking me if I wanted to deliver her myself! It was so amazing to grab her and pull that warm little body onto my chest

For #1, it was after pushing for an hour and the dr placing him on my chest. I felt such relief and awe for the birth process as well as instant love towards DS.

For#2, the nurse had to weigh DS twice because she couldn't believe he was 9lbs 11oz! We all couldn't believe it!

With my first, I remember my husband saying they could see the head while I was mid push. I basically stopped pushing, inthralled, wanting to know if she had hair. He was like, "Yes! She has hair! Lots, now push!" haha. Then that first moment of actually holding her for the first time.

With my second, I remember my dr getting right into my face saying "MrsB2012, you need to push hard and get this baby out now." I was confused as my labour was super quick and I had only just started pushing. I guess her heart rate was dropping really low. I got her out ( less than 8 mins of pushing all together ) and the cord was wrapped around her neck 5 times. She was so blue. I can see picture how blue she was. It scared me so bad, but she was fine.

@bluestriped bee: Good thread topic! Mine would probably be watching the scale like a hawk moments after he was born to see how big he was (he was supposed to be big!)!

@MrsB2012: Good call! My second would be hearing that he had hair when his head crowned bc the ultrasound tech had told us he was bald

Having my DH tell me the name. We were Team Green and had both a boy and girl name ready for the baby.

The moment he was placed on my chest, I just said over and over- "I did it!" I was so happy I was able to have the medfree birth I wanted. And then DH crying when he was finally born. He was so happy and so proud of me.

@peaches1038: I kept saying "I did it!" too, after my daughter was born.

I don't remember either of my babies crying. With my daughter the most memorable part was how freaking painful induction was and it didn't even work! Then finally when I was in labor on my own and ready to push I started shaking uncontrollably because I had so much adrenaline.

With my son it would be when my water broke everywhere while I was standing in triage and they wheeled me down to a delivery room at a million miles an hour, lol

With D, I remember the intense pain of him being stuck in the birth canal and then the intense release when I pushed him out.

With A, I remember they placed her on my chest and she immediately began nuzzling around, looking for my nipple to nurse!

@MrsRoo: My OB was making sure that her son got to his Dad fine during my delivery. We talked about inductions a few minutes before my delivery too. She also hung back and delivered me at the end of her shift literally watching the clock noticing her shift was nearly over.

With dd, several. First laboring in the tub for hours at night. It was so long, that labor. Then probably getting to the hospital and getting epi. Then her crying and saying OMG as it was shocking she came out of me, lol! Not sure what I was expecting but it was amazing that a person came out of me!

With ds, finding out that I was actually a five and not just having a false alarm. We only went in when we did because the dr said to. I had a lot of GI issues and cramps that pregnancy so for the first several hours I wasn't sure if it was contractions or what. Then holding him the first (second? not on my chest but after they cleaned him up, he had meconium) time. Not really labor but I remember how his face looked and how tiny he was and being sort of in disbelief that we had a squishy newborn again!

When I felt the need to push. 30 minutes prior to that I was told I would probably need a csection because I had been at 5 cm for 16 hours or so, and then I progressed to 9cm very quickly! It was such an intense feeling that I couldn't control!

Ds1- my blue smurf baby with red hair. His cord was around his neck. Oh and lots of pain to the point where the doctor told me to stop screaming because I needed to save my strength. Natural labor was not a good idea.

Ds2- the glorious epidural that made my legs go numb and the baby basically just popped right out. The release of pressure was wonderful and so different than the first time.
