thanks for sharing, I"m disappointed to see Trader Joe's on the list.

The ones I use are rated 3/4 (Banana Boat Protect & Hydrate and Neutrogena Clear face) but the one I use for my DD isn't on the list at all. I use Babyganics mineral based sunscreen SPF 50... wish it was on the list!!

@ktdid23: EWG has an app where you can scan the barcode. When I looked up my Aveeno I couldn't find it, but when I scanned the barcode it came up

@ktdid23: I read something like that too so I didn't buy that brand No personal experience though. Such a bummer. False advertising.

Anyone try Blue Lizard ?

It looks like a lot of the toxic ones are spray based. I wonder if it is something in the spray that makes it extra bad.

I'm not surprised to see the TJ's one on there. Their private label goods are still made by major manufacturers (just like Costco Kirkland brand). If the sprays are bad, then they are probably all bad.

@coacheswife123: we use blue lizard and really like it. It's thick but does the job. I'm gonna try honest co and think baby next.

I'm disappointed that my neutrogena ones are on the most toxic list, especially because I just bought a pack at Costco. Time to use that up and get something new!

@birdofafeather: did you use the baby kind or one of the waterproof versions ?

I'd heard that sprays are also bad for marine life, for people who use them on beaches, boats, etc. but I never knew spf wipes are bad, too! They seem so convenient, good to know this.

After much hemming and hawing, I've bought Badger unscented for LO. I hope it's a good call.

I use California baby for LO and blue lizard for myself. I switched years ago, though I'll use whatever if I forget to bring my own because burning is not an option. My husband is a diehard bullfrog fan, though.

@MoonMoon: I think any chemical sunscreen is bad for marine life. I know that many places that have "swimming with dolphins/seals/fish, etc" won't allow you to get in to water with anything but mineral sunscreen.

ooh, there's this too...I won't ever by the spray stuff again! Even though I'm sure it is a freak accident...I don't think I want to be spraying anything that flammable on our skin (or where we can breathe it in!).

@sunny: That kind of worries me too now. I'm surprised about the Neutrogena one too! I like sprays, but maybe need to reconsider now.

We use Badger, for the whole family. Mostly the regular "daily" variety, because it's thinner/less messy. We also have the baby "active" one for the pool/beach, but it's so thick and goopy, I really hate using it.

@coacheswife123: I like it. Both are kind of thick and leave a white cast, but the Honest is less greasy than the Badger.

@coacheswife123: baby kind. it's not greasy, just thicker than i'm used to.
@Foodnerd81: i used that last year to make my decision on the blue lizard! great and easy round up.

@shopaholic: my GF had this one today called supergoop sunscreen mist. looks like it's a 4 on the EWG list. want to look more into it as their other products are lower on the scale!

@birdofafeather: did you use something different in water or just reapply?

I know I was eager to hear other people's opinions so I thought I would add mine. I bought the Babyganics sunscreen yesterday at Target, it was $7.19 for 6 oz and it is a 2 on the ewg scale. It smells like sunscreen but not super strong and it blends in nicely, it is a touch on the oily side afterwards but not bad at all, I just wouldn't be inclined to put it on my face unless it was urgent.
