Following this as this might also be my reality - might be moving from east coast canada to west coast. REALLY don't want to leave but at least I'm going from ocean to another, right?

I worry about making such a big move with an infant but everyone tells me that is really the best time.

We're taking off in a couple weeks to move about 10 hours away with a toddler and infant (3.5 and 9 months). I think, if we could have chosen, I would've picked to move between 4-6 months. That seems like a really easy timeframe, where the baby is old enough to be sleeping/eating/etc... better but still not old enough to be really affected by the move. 9 months is more hectic than 4-6 months was because now DS sleeps less, is crawling and starting to pull himself up to standing, which means I have to watch him all the time and he takes up more of my day.

We moved more than halfway across the country this summer when DD was 4 months old. We did it in the car over the period of a week. (We stayed with my cousin around the halfway point for a few days during that week). It wasn't too bad. DD was still at an age where sitting in the carseat for most of the day wasn't a huge deal. Now at 8 months, I think she would not be so thrilled to spend 8+ hours per day in the car.

The worst part for us was that our moving truck didn't arrive for more than a week and a half after we arrived at our new house. We basically had to camp out on the floor for that entire time. DD had her Pack N Play, but we desperately missed having a bed, dishes, and chairs.

I'd say around 3-5 months might be the ideal time. Earlier than that, and you might still be figuring out motherhood and what your baby's temperament is. Much later than that, and your baby will become more active, sleep less during the day, and probably not enjoy being strapped into the carseat for hours on end...
