My 10 day old baby has had mucous in her last 2 diapers and the poop has been a kind of greeny brown colour. She's on 100 % breast milk, some pumped. I'm wondering if it could be a dairy intollerance... There's lots of it in my family. No other symptoms other than a diaper rash. Do you think I should call her doctor in the morning?

my son had the same thing and it was dairy allergies. try removing dairy for a week and see what happens. is ur baby fussy or uncomfortable?

Silly question but do you know if it is coming from her vaginal area? DD had this around the same time and the Dr told is it was just a result of the hormones in the breast milk . DD is now 4 months and still has it from time to time.

@banana: she's not particularly fussy and she doesn't seem in pain but dairy was first thing I thought of.
@leelee: I think it was in the poop and the poop was a different colour. Good point though, she was one of those babies who had a little period thanks to hormones.

I heard greenish poop means not enough hind milk but not sure about mucous...

My sons poop was never right and he has MSPI but he screamed. So, it sounds like you have a few options. You can stop eating dairy products (please don't substitute with soy, up to 70% of babies who don't tolerate milk also don't tolerate soy. I made this mistake). It takes about 2 weeks to see results. Personally this was relatively easy and safe for me. You can see a doctor or lactation aid and see if they can help and if it may be a foremilk issue. We also did some block feeding to see if that helped.
My doctor personally had no experience with milk intolerance and still won't accept that he has it.

Echoing a few other posters my dd had it and had dairy intolerance as well.

My son's poop didn't turn green/mucousy until around 7 weeks, but soon thereafter had some blood in his poop and was diagnosed with a dairy intolerance.
FYI make sure to read all labels (there is hidden dairy in so much) and be sure to eliminate butter too.
My doctor doubted it at first, but then I re-introduced dairy around 4 months and he immediately had blood in his stool again. Our GI specialist does not think that he has a soy intolerance, but we put him on Nutramigen since 4.5 months and he's responded very well.

My ped said dairy allergies too....it all went away after I removed dairy from my diet:)

Her diapers are back to normal today but I've cut down on my dairy consumption significantly. @Mrs. Superhero: Thanks so much for this, I'm really wondering if this is the case with me. Because she's getting so much pumped breastmilk she might be getting lots of foremilk, so I might try breastfeeding right after pumping so in theory all that would be left would be hindmilk...
I'm seeing a lactation consultant again on Monday so will mention it to them too.
Ahhhh I can't wait until I have more of a clue what to do with a baby!!!

@travelgirl1: If you are pumping and giving pumped milk, she should have a good balance! At first, I thought the green poo was an oversupply issue (which I DID have) but the green poo only went away when I went off dairy.

@winniebee: @Thehistoryofus: Thank you! I did block feeding the last few days and it hasn't made a difference so I'm leaning more towards the dairy issue.... She has gotten a little fussier over the last 24 hours, too.
I'm seeing a lactation consultant today so hopefully they'll have some ideas.

If its green and frothy the its mightbe because of too much fore milk

@Mrsbells: It's not frothy it's more mucousy.....I tried to address an imbalance of hind/foremilk over the weekend but it didn't make any difference so am leaning towards a dairy intolerance... poor little baby, it sucks not knowing what's wrong with her!
