My son wants to have a movie party for his 7th birthday. He wants to show Muppets Treasure Island which he watched at my parents’ house a few months ago. I haven’t seen it (more of a Muppets Take Manhattan fan myself ;)). For those who have, would you be okay with your similarly aged kid watching it? Just want to make sure I’m not traumatizing anyone!

So, I love Muppet Treasure Island. It’s so good. The first big scene involves a death but it’s not too gory. There is a fight scene that involves some guns/violence but I think it’s okay for 7 year olds? I would maybe watch it yourself first (if only because then you can sing along!) just to be sure. But I don’t think there is any serious gore or other deaths.

Also love the movie!! Haven’t watched it in a while, but I think it’s fine for a 7 year old kid. It’s pretty slapstick for fighting and just silly. All the marvel type movies and stuff are much more intense and little kids are watching those.

I personally loathe the muppets, but wouldn’t be at all upset if my seven year old saw a movie at a party - I just don’t find them funny/cute (if i am the one watching) for some reason.. If you know you have any potentially fussy parents in the crowd, maybe announce the movie choice on the invitation so you can iron out any concerns beforehand. We recently had a faux-sleepover for my daughter’s seventh birthday and I expected questions about what movie we’d be watching (the version of 101 Dalmatians with real people), but no one asked me.
FWIW, we didn’t make it through even half the movie - once their popcorn was gone, the girls were up and moving around and making up games, so don’t stress too much about the movie - it may not get watched anyway!
