These ideas have been said time and again, but I just wanted to share what went through my head as I nursed my beautiful daughter at 5 am.

The first few month with a new baby can be hectic, nerve wrecking, overwhelming, and so on. You can get caught up in the never ending list of chores, feel disconnect from the adult world, and be dreading the next 2 am (and 3 and 4...) wake up. But it's all about your outlook, right? And here is the outlook I have finally arrived at.

I have been blessed with the gift of motherhood. It is my job to give this human being as much love and attention and care as I can. It is my job to be present in every moment when I'm with her and just love her.

The love a child receives in their early life goes on to shape them as a person and in the course of their life, this person shapes the future of our world.

If I could give advice to myself 5 months ago, or pre-pregnancy for that matter, it would be to throw out any expectations. Don't make plans for your life. Your job is to just be present and love this person. Not every moment will be joyous - but just be present and experience all that comes with motherhood. Give the greatest gift you can to this person - your love.

I am a mother. I am raising my child in love and am helping make this world a better place.
