MIL frequently ends text exchanges with something like "give my boys hugs and kisses" etc. I would never say anything but it always bothers me. Also last time she came to visit she made a big deal of saying how she had to get down here to see "her boys", while hugging my DH. I feel like this may be petty, but it annoys me!!
Do your parents or ILs refer to your LOs as "my"? Does it bother you?

@jhd: I can see why it would be cringey if you were already BEC with her, but I see it as a term of endearment and no more.

My MIL did it and it bugged me. I would never have said anything to anyone, but in the context of other things that went on it rubbed me the wrong way - so i get it!

I refer to my DH and sons that way - for sure it will bug future DILs! Ah well

Lol my mom calls dd and the baby I'm pregnant with "hers" I just let it go. I know she is trying to be cute or something and doesnt mean anything by it. đ¤ˇââď¸

My mom refers to me and DD as "her girls" all the time. Most of the time she says it about both of us but occasionally calls just DD "her girl." But we all have a great relationship with my mom, so it's never seemed weird, forced or territorial. Just a sweet way to refer to us.
If my MIL said it I can imagine I might feel a little annoyed but that's because we don't have a great relationship with her to begin with. So depending on your relationship with you MIL I could understand being annoyed. If your relationship is otherwise good, I would try not to let it get to you.

i'm glad my boys have a grandmother who loves them. in the context of in person visits she gushes over all 3 of "her boys" and how she couldn't wait to come down to see them. that's great. but when she doesn't even say hello to me it makes me want to leave and let her visit with "her boys" and get some quiet alone time. 
that would never fly though!
@Mrs. Tiger: i do try to keep in mind that one day i may have DILs who find me equally annoying.

@jhd: my mil doesnât do this but does other annoying various things and I did start taking her visits for my alone time đ¤ˇââď¸ Take care of you. Honestly weâre all better for it

@crazydoglady: haha, yeah this. My mom does it too but itâs actually not on the list of 1500 things she does that annoy me. I guess I do agree that theyâre âhersâ because they are in fact her grandkids. I donât think she means theyâre hers before theyâre mine. She also calls our Labrador her dog.

That doesnât bother me.
If my IL said it- it would lol. Donât ask why hahaha.

My mom did this shortly after my daughter was born and I was full of hormones and I just told her ââThis is my baby not yours!ââ Lol.
If it were my MIL it would be harder to tackle but would also bother me.

I think itâs just a term of endearment, not meant to devalue your position. But I understand your annoyance. My mom calms my son âmy babyâ sometimes and it doesnât bother me at all (itâs just a sweet sentiment!). But if my MIL said that it would bother me more. Totally no ill intent, sometimes MIL relationships are just hard and we get more emotional!

I get the annoyance. My mil ALWAYS "slips up" and calls herself mom and myself grandma to my child. Never mind that it's super annoying to me that she talks in the third person, my daughter is 4.5!! Like you've had plenty of time to figure this out by now. Get it right, Grandma. *eyeroll*

@jhd: YES!! đ my MIL always says âhowâs grandmas girlâ or asks me âhow is my granddaughter doingâ and it irritates me so much! Buttttt on the flip side, I cannot stand anything my MIL does so itâs extra annoying to me! đ¤ˇââď¸

My mom does this and yes, it drives me inSANE. She also posts on fb on photos what my kids are "thinking or saying" in the picture.. as if she can read their minds.... half the time she's completely OFF base and i chuckle... LOL. I don't say anything bc it's not worth the effort.. but it does annoy me...
