Good vibes needed for my city please!
Two of our major rivers are flooding because of the mountains and heavy rains. This is the first time in our city's history that we've had anything this bad and we're in a state of emergency. 100,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.
Here's a few pics, the bridge is from earlier this morning and it is far less visible now.

@oliviaoblivia: thanks, DH and I are fine, we live on a hill in the burbs. Our entire downtown core and belt line are closed and have been evacuated.

Oh goodness! I'm glad you live in the hills...are you able to get out and away if you need to or are you surrounded by water at this point?

@anbanan15: well, I think where I am is ok, we actually have offered our house to anyone who has been evacuated. We are far out from the rivers so we won't need to move. Although all the towns around us are flooded and roads and highways have been closed. Our city (aside from the evacuated areas) have been advised to stay in their homes and not go out today.

I saw that on the news this morning-- crazy! Glad you are OK, but that must be so hard for all those people being evacuated.

@.twist.: we live in the same city! Thankfully we are up high in the suburbs too and most of the community centres set up for evacuees are near our house. A couple of neighbourhoods nearby are being monitored closely though. Stay safe and dry!

Tanks everyone! It's pretty crazy, I don't think many people who've lived here can say they've been part of a natural disaster.

@.twist.: we just moved here at the beginning of May! The amount of rainfall in the past couple of months has been absurd...everyone has assured me that this is NOT the norm!

Stay safe! I'm in The Maritimes but have many friends in Calgary area so have been keeping a close eye on the news and praying for everyone affected.

@Sammyfab: yea, it definitely isn't normally this rainy here. Not a good first experience for ya. I'm really impressed with how the city has come together for this though. Lots of help and volunteering going on.
Thanks again for all your warm thoughts, I know our city needs them. This is one of the scariest times I've ever experienced.

@katsupgirl: yea, the grocery stores are insanity right now. Apparently we are scarce on bottled water and a huge shipment is coming in from Ontario. I read on Facebook that grocery store line ups were 3/4 around the entire store.

That's crazy! I have been watching it on the news as well.
We had a massive thunderstorm last night and sections of the city had overland flooding. 70 mm in under an hour! It is going across Canada. They are projecting even more rain all weekend. The weather is crazy! Our ikea was even flooded and evacuated! Ha ha. Stay safe!

My family is all in Calgary (all living higher up, so no homes at risk of flooding). I live in Medicine Hat, and the water is coming towards us now, and it is likely we will lose water and power. I have stocked up on all emergency supplies, and I am waiting t get called into work, I am scheduled to work at the hospital saturday/sunday anyways, but I think I might be asked to work extra hours.
