I still have an iPhone 5 and I swear, when I fell asleep last night it was working fine--woke up this morning and it won't let me swipe anything on the screen at all. I'm so mad...especially if I lose the 300 pics that I was waiting to finish be backed up since they are mainly of the holidays. 
Tips on how to fix it?? A reset isn't doing anything.

That's what happened to mine eventually, and they said that it was the screen going out and that it would only get worse. You should be able to get the pictures off, but you might need to get a new phone too.

I made the mistake of turning it off to reset it...at least before I could use touch ID to get into the phone but the screen wouldn't let me touch anything. Now I need to manually enter the code so I can't even unlock it. UGH.

@rattles: It's an old iPhone, I got it when it first came out so it's just over 3 years old. How do I get the pictures off of it?

Those old ones can be finicky. I would try to let it rest and try again in a few hours.

@matador84: I took mine into the store and they backed it up to iCloud and then transferred them to the new phone, if I remember right.

@T.H.O.U.: I finally managed to be able to turn it off without having to slide since I can't touch the screen. Hopefully a few hours of rest and it will magically get back to working.
Sadly enough for me it's probably time for a new phone.

@T.H.O.U.: I ended up having to get a new phone. I walked out of the store the first time with an SE but got home and it never charged! DH took it back for me and he got me a 7. It's definitely nice but grrrrr I totally was not wanting to spend the extra $ and hold out for an 8 later.
My pics did show up on my new phone on my photostream! Not sure how because I know I never backed them up to the cloud but the last 100 or so are there. Most of the others did back up to dropbox so I probably still lost some in between...

@MrsBrewer: easiest way is to plug into a computer and do a backup to iTunes. No worries about cloud space, etc. You can also download your photos that way while youre at it (you can't extract photos from a back up I dont believe).

@T.H.O.U.: When you extract the photos, will they be removed from your phone? I need to just set aside time and do it! I'm totally running out of space on my phone too, so I really should do that.

@MrsBrewer: You can tell it to remove from your phone or not. I still usually keep them on my phone (hence why I have no storage) and then go through and delete some of the extras.
