He has been pestering him a bit. He is gentle but he likes to gently hold his tail or follow him around and stomp his feet near him. We Have been telling him no and scolding him but i went to the rest room this morning and he finally got him. I am so upset. My son is okay but i'm afraid he will be scarred for life. I am so angry at my husband for not trimming his claws more frequently! Is there anything i can do to prevent scarring? The scratch is on his face across his eyebrow.

Aww, poor baby! I know how you feel, but it happens so often with pets. My two goldens give "high fives," which was a neat trick we taught them when they were puppies but which resulted in a completely unintentional face-scratching incident with J last year. The scratch was completely gone the next day. Maybe rub some neosporin on it and try explaining again "the cat didn't mean to hurt you, he just got a little scared, that's why we have to be gentle with him" etc. I hope the scratch and the hurt feelings heal quickly!

@keepcalmcarrie: thanks., Unfortunately i think cat scratches heal much worse than dogs since their nails are so sharp. I wish i had told my husband to clip his nails. I am unreasonably angry at my husband and our cat right now. I just hope my baby doesnt have a scar on his face forever.

I have had a million cat scratches and not one has left a scar. He should be fine! Just be sure to disinfect it, that's all.

@MrsMccarthy: hormones are probably what is making you angry at hubs and B - T will be ok! He just as easily could've fallen and needed stitches. I had stitches on my forehead as a child and scar is barely visible in my hairline. He will be okay, just clean it and use it as a learning experience for him - personal space for B.

@PawPrints: Agree. My cats have scratched me a billion times and I don't have a single scar. I think Vitamin E helps scarring but I doubt very much you will need it. Stuff like this happens.
Also, if you don't already have one, get a good cat scratch post. Not like the cardboard kinds but a real heavy duty one. That keeps their nails trimmed as well.

I would try emu oil. My LO is always getting scratches (not from
Cats but from our dogs and just playing), and the emu oil
Always heals it up very quickly. -
Try not to be mad at the cat. it wasn't his fault. It was just doing what it had to do. Just let this just be a learning lesson for your son. He'll be fine. Cat scratches don't leave bad scars. I've had millions in my life.

You can look at getting some scare zone cream to help it heal and just make sure you put sun screen on it daily and it should help it heal

@MrsMccarthy: Yes. Having a high spot for a cat to "escape" little ones is essential. We have one that goes to the ceiling (my husband custom built it) and I know it will be a lifesaver when our little guy comes home.

Our cat has never scarred us either. Our one cat scratched Cs palm really badly when she was about 10/11 months old because she cornered him. It didn't leave a mark and we didnt get mad at him. Kids have to learn and she's never done it again.

Our cat scratched my son across the forehead pretty bad when he was about 8 months. I was traumatized by it, but it healed so quickly and has never happened again. I like to think they both learned their lesson! I cleaned it out really well and then just used some polysporin for a few days. We were shocked how quickly it went away.

I had soo many cat scratches when I was little and even though they swell up badly at the time, none of them have left even a trace of a scar. Now the bite Mark from my little brother.... different story haha.

My cat grabbed me behind the ears and bit my face when I was little. Haha. I don't remember what I did but didn't leave a scar.
Children's skin heals so well, I had 5 stitches in my forehead after falling off a scooter and still not a mark all these years later! -
@MrsMccarthy: actually since cats claws are sharper they don't scar as often. I worked at a vet and have numerous dog scratch scars but none from cats.
Also I was scratched twice really hard on the face when I was about 5 or so and I have no scars from that either.

I had many scratches for playing with my cats and no scar!! We have a cat tooband my son kiss and pet him and is gentle most ofbtimes but sometimes he is roygh and my cat usually just run away. Just once he scratched him but my son pulled his tail reslly hard so i couldn't blame him but i am ttying everyday to teach my son how to treat animals snd after thst he bever did it again!

I'm going to be the odd one out... Our childhood cat scratched my baby sister when she was 5 and she still has the scars on her chest. They were very, very deep scratches though.
Glad your LO's scratch healed perfectly!
