Taking the photos, I think you have lots of time, and careful cropping makes them family share worthy (like I took photos of my 3.5 yo nephew and 12 month old baby in the tub, and only shared ones with no boy/girl parts, and only with friends and family, not Facebook or Instagram).

Beyond that... I have no idea.

I don't think there's anything wrong with little bums and topless babies. I think babies running around in diapers are pretty cute.

However, my very personal opinion on child photography is this: I don't really take naked photos of my son, ever. I don't post a lot of photos of him in just a diaper, either. I try to keep my facebook and IG pretty private. I did take a video of him in the tub once doing something cute, but you couldn't actually see anything. I just don't understand the point of naked pics? haha. Again, just my personal take on them.

I know a girl on my FB posts nudies of her little girl a lot and I just don't understand why. FB can be private, but the internet is a scary place. One of my friends had a good friend for 12 years, and she recently found out he was taking videos of her and other girls in his bathroom. He even cropped out the face of one of his friends daughters and pasted it on the face of a girl he video taped having sex with. That is fucked up. She knew him for TWELVE years and never suspected anything, until he was caught. I mean, that's an extreme case, and I don't think everyone knows someone like that, but that's not to say it can't happen.

I don't see anything wrong with just diaper pics for as long as they are in diapers. I probably wouldn't take fully naked pictures of LO now (10 months). For bathtub pics I would try to avoid private areas and definitely not post them.

I never take naked pics below the tummy but my DD was in a shirtless phase this summer (she is 3.5 now) and I took pics of her wearing just a bathing suit bottom - I honestly didn't think anything of it

This is truly a problem of our generation and the internet age. My parents are both advanced amateur photographers and the seemingly unimportant moments from my childhood are documented beautifully, these are lots of semi nude shots, our parents did not have a vast and unknown internet to post them to.

As a photographer myself I am extremely sensitive to the privacy/modestly of my clients, and I will be the same way with my children. Knowing that a family was in our future, I deleted my FB account and make a new one to just admin my photography page. I started a second IG account for just friends and family so my 1000+ business followers do not have anything but very carefully controlled access to images our child, I will be a little more relaxed with my second account.

So your question about sharing these kind of photos with others and when it would stop. Pictures of my child nude (even tastefully covered) will not be posted on the internet. I will gladly share images in a baby book or album with people in my home. I think the larger question becomes why are we so compelled to share everything about ourselves with the world. I try to keep my most precious images and memories private, just like my parents did.

I don't think anything is wrong with naked newborn pics. Although I didn't post any pictures of her bum in full view. You can see it from the side, but that is all.

I don't post pics of her in the bath if you can see anything. Her cake smash she just had a skirt on and I think that was ok, cause it isn't like she has boobs.

My kid never has a shirt on at home--she rocks the diaper all the time. She never wears clothes to eat. I definitely don't consider that pornographic. And on the occasion i post a photo of her in the tub, all her lady business is covered (bubbles or the HOARDS of toys she must have). But you'll definitely see a little baby booty now and then. *shrug*. I think the line is somewhere around 2.5-3 years.

I have tons of pictures of my LO in the tub (covered by bubbles or cropped) and running around in just a diaper. But, I don't post them online. I think the cutoff of taking these types of pictures would be when LO is uncomfortable or maybe 2-3ish.

Honestly, I really don't believe the pictures themselves are the issue. I think it's the internet and the ability to share photos and stories instantly with huge audiences... And the fact that that sharing is out there forever.

When my parents divorced, I wound up with several dozen photo albums of photos from my childhood. There are TONS of naked pictures, bath pictures, etc. but they're just in a faded photo album on the top shelf of my closet. Not living forever on the internet.

I personally don't take any photos with private parts showing. Even my baby's first bath photos are covered. I guess I just don't feel comfortable with that for us, even if the photos stay private. I'm pretty reserved though, and I think I would be embarrassed now if there were a lot of naked pics of my baby self being shared, so I don't do it for my son.

I do take diaper only pictures, but I don't share them outside of a text to my mom or my husband.

As far as sharing photos on social media, I am generally very reserved about it. I post very few pictures to facebook/instagram, and it's calculated on my part. My husband and I discussed how to handle this when we had kids, because I'm uncomfortable with the way kids grow up with an internet presence. It's not even really about safety for me. I can't get my head around the idea that my son could have hundreds of photos of himself shared online before he's even old enough for social media himself. So we limit what we post.

I have friends, though, who post several pictures a day of their kids, and I don't judge them for it. Nor do I think they should stop; their kids are adorable and I love to see the pics. We've just made different choices for our baby.

I don't plan on ever taking any revealing naked photos of LO, and if I did I would never, ever share them over the internet. I think a key point to keep in mind is that once kids do reach the age of being able to feel embarrassed and protective of their private parts, to them, those naked baby/toddler photos are of their body, and just as embarrassing as if you posted a current photo. Kids, like all humans, have a right to bodily autonomy and I think a big part of that is respecting their right not to have somebody else expose them publicly/permanently.

But maybe take my opinion with a grain of salt, since I have pretty strict standards for baby-photo-sharing overall. My current thinking is that we'll do a password-protected blog to share photos with relatives. I really want to respect LO's future autonomy by letting his/her future self make the hard decisions (once he/she is old enough) about whether to have an online presence.

(I do think topless photos of baby girls is a separate question, though. I wouldn't want to teach my daughter that her body is more shameful than a boy's body in any way. I'm pretty sure I feel like diaper pics are okay.)

I don't think diaper shots are a big deal at all. The only fully naked photos of our little guy are from his birth or in the tub but we do not share them. Our older DS is potty training and naked about 90% of the time so if I do take any pictures and it shows anything they definitely are not shared with anyone. I guess topless boy pics are different than girls but I think as long as it would be ok in public (like the beach) it is ok to share with family and friends. Maybe not on FB or IG though.

I don't think there is anything wrong with taking the pics for family memories, maybe up to like 4 or so. But I personally started to have an issue with DD being topless in public photos around 14 or 15 months. It just felt weird to me at that point. It was brought on by MIL had posted it to FB and made it her public profile pic. I don't look at other babies and toddlers in diaper pics as if they are pornographic or anything I really don't see anything wrong with it, I just have chosen that I am not comfortable sharing DD like that publicly.

I have zero naked pictures of C. None. I have a few where she is topless (her 6 month shots featured her in a tutu and pearls with no shirt) but none of her totally naked or even in the bath.

I dunno... I dont think I really have an issue with it, I guess it just doesnt occur to me to document that.

I think the line is somewhere around 2, personally. I feel like at 2 they aren't a "baby" anymore.
