@LuLu Mom: I have an Ellison! We thought we would call her Ellie but it just doesn't suit her as much as Ellison.

Names I won't be able to use: Elodie, Everett, Hallie, Emmaline

I loved the name Hudson for a boy, but it sounds terrible with out last name

  3. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Running Elley: Is there a reason you are using all E names? My great-grandma was Edith, and I wanted to use it and call her Edie but we decided not too. DH wasn't a huge fan.

  4. GrapeCrush

@LuLu Mom: @Running Elley: love Everly! We were thisclose to using it for DD...it just didnt fit

emerson- really anything ending in -son is out because of mr. bird's last name
matilda, NM matty- too similar to my name
teagan, logan- names ending in -n are tricky with last name

  6. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@ElbieKay: our friend's baby boy is name Jeremiah and I don't like calling him Jerry so I started calling him JJ

  7. illumina

    pomelo / 5469 posts

I used to want to name a daughter Chloe, until my SIL took it I also love Isabel/Isabelle...but that's the name of one of my closest friends, so would be a bit weird thinking I'd named a DD after her!

  8. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

I love Jack (my parents' dog's name), Kaleigh (a cousin's name), Mason (last name) and Piper (a friend's name).

  9. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

For a girl, I love Lois (DH hates it), Heidi (it sounds terrible with our last name), and Joey (sounds awful with our last name).

For a boy, I like Noah (DH's friends used it), Trystan (DH hates it) and Rowan (DH knows someone with this name and it put him off).

  10. MrsH

    honeydew / 7667 posts

I love Jack but won't use it with our last name because it would sound funny.

  11. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

    Charlotte...I LOVE the name...but I live here.

  12. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

    Sarah---his ex wife's name

Anything like Phil or that starts with an F for a girl, like Fiona. Doesn't work with our last name.

  13. fancyfunction

    grapefruit / 4085 posts

I love Grace but my husband doesn't. Also Valentina but my cousin just named their baby that. Some more Italian names that wouldn't go with the Irish last name, though M's name flows well.

  14. MrsMccarthy

    honeydew / 7295 posts

Rutger for a boy and Aurora for a girl. Rutger was vetoed and. We already know someone with an Aurora. Such a bummer.

  15. littleredhairedgrl

    persimmon / 1135 posts

Luca and Olivia were names we loved that were used by people close to us. I also love Aiden for a boy but dh hates it. Now our boy name is Jack, but 2 people at work (who i'm not close with at all) just named their boys Jack. I think we will still use it if lo is a boy, just might lengthen to Jackson.. can't wait to find out!

  16. IRunForFun

    pomelo / 5509 posts

Helena. DH's only serious girlfriend before me was Helen, so he's vetoed it. I tell him it's pronounced differently (Hel-ay-na) but he still says no. Boooo.

  17. illumina

    pomelo / 5469 posts

Oh, and another one...Alice, which is my great grandmother's name that I love, but it's also an exbfs wife's name (he left me for her!) and whilst I'm not bitter at all, it would be weird using it!

  18. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

Ella, Elizabeth (names a friend chose), and Evelyn (which would sound weird with our last name being Evans).

  19. cascademom

    coconut / 8861 posts

    Declan
    Neal
    Amelia

  20. lulibee

    Emily and Ella.

  23. mrs. bird

  24. coopsmama

I love several H names (Harper, Hudson, & Hadley) but our last name starts with an H so they sound pretty cutesy when paired together.

  25. yellowbird

    honeydew / 7303 posts

I also really like Noah for a boy hut it's so popular now!

  26. cheesetomywhine

    pear / 1586 posts

I have oh so many. DH is quite picky! Finn (aunt named her puppy it), Grant, Henry, Augustus, Lochlan (R's name ends in Lyn) are some of the boys. Guinevere, Lucinda (maybe I can sneak it as a middle one day?), Rosalie (too close to R's), Matilda are some examples of girls.

I have a huge list but since we are in the midst of name discussions I listed the most frequently shot down

  27. cheert16

    nectarine / 2631 posts

Zachary- DH wont let me use it because its our neighbors sons name!

  28. sotofamilia

    kiwi / 612 posts

Growing up, I always thought I'd have a son named Luke or Henry. My husband vetoed both names, so it's not to be...still love those names though! I keep hoping maybe our next cat or dog...

  29. swedishfish

    GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts

@Mrs. Champagne: I also love August but DH isn't on board.

Love Declan but my whole family gave me a hard time about using a very Irish name with my very non-Irish last name. I also love Aurelia but DH doesn't.

  30. meganmp

    persimmon / 1420 posts

Claire! Gah, I love that name. Works with our last name, too. Friend already has it, so it's out. Pout.

  31. rachiecakes

    coconut / 8279 posts

@pui: my husband hates Beatrice, too

I love Clementine but have heard so many negative comments about the name, I can't unhear it.

Can't use Jacob (because it is our last name). Or Caleb because it sounds weird with our last name.

Frida, Charlotte, Emma, Jean, Talia, Thomas - all names of parents/brother's pets.

  32. doodlepoodle

    grapefruit / 4136 posts

Connor and Cora (or most C names) I just don't feel like it works with our last name. I really like Connor, Camden, cadence, etc...*sigh

  33. jhd

    coconut / 8079 posts

Emma was my fave girls name forever. SIL used it a few years ago. Love our niece but it did make me sad at first!

  34. Crystal

    grapefruit / 4028 posts

    Oh, so many!

    Jacqueline Elizabeth (my cousin's name)
Catherine Elizabeth (nope, because of princess kate)
    Ava (too popular)

    DH vetoed:
Everly, Adelyn, Adelind, Grayson. Zane, Sawyer, Ezra

  35. erinpye

    pomegranate / 3706 posts

-Fiona (a finalist, but sounds weird with Sloane- 2 long O sounds)
    -Quinn (DH veto)
    -Piper (DH veto)
    -Selma (DH veto)
    -Maeve (DH veto)
    -Fallon (DH veto)

I'm surprised we agreed on a name for DD2 with how picky my DH is.

  36. lovehoneybee

    GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts

Evelyn (because I think it sounds too close to Evan)
Connor, Benjamin, Ethan, Lily (close family)
    Clara (former friend)

  37. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@babyjmama: Connor is on my list if we have a boy.

  38. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

Mae - Love it but my husband hates it
Jack - my bff has always said she'd name a boy this so I consider it off limits
Benjamim - I have a cousin with this name
Beatrix - I love it but I think my whole fam would consider it too weird.

  39. IRunForFun

    pomelo / 5509 posts

@swedishfish: I love Aurelia! It reminds me of Love Actually.

  40. Mrs. Tiger

I love the girls names Sita and Janaki but alas, no girls for us.
