Names you love but can't use

Jackson. I have a cousin named Jackson and a cousin on my other side named his kid Jackson too.

Our last name starts with the "in" sound so a lot of names that end with a similar sound are out. We did end up picking a name that ends in n, but it's not too "in" sounding.

I would have loved Anaïs for a girl, but a Hellobee thread made me realize everyone (in the USA) would mispronounce it. Dodged a bullet, I guess!

Paige. Doesnt work with our last name.

We have a very common last name, so a lot of traditional boy's names that I like are tough. I love the name Benjamin, but our last name begins with a "J" and I really would not want to bestow the initials B.J. on my son

Other than that, my husband won't allow names that are like, top 500 popular for girls - hence, he vetoed Eleanor, which I really wanted!

I love Emma or Emily, but my sister's name is Emily so I wouldn't use them.

I love the name Owen but one of DH's best friends' name is Owen so DH keeps vetoing it.

DD's name ends with a "y" sound, so I'm vetoing lots of names for future use because they end with a "y" sound and seem kind of too cutesy together.

Nothing ending in -son because of our last name.
Cohen, because we know a weird politician by that name
And DH vetoes all my fav girl names as 'granny names' - Pearl, Ruby, Scarlett

DH and I both love the name Julia, but I have a sister named Julia, and she would be completely unbearable if we named a child after her (even though I love her to pieces), so....just no

Clementine, Celandine, Anise, Larkin -- all too gendered. Sweetie and I would prefer that people not make gendered assumptions about our future LOs before they even meet them.

Lilian - I love the name but its too similar to my niece's name.

I am trying to stick with all H names for my kids. If we have another girl I really like Hannah (but DH doesn't like it), and a boy would be Hudson (DH doesn't like it either).

Jack/Jackson just does not work with our last name. Too bad bc it was the one boy's name both DH and I liked!

Everly doesn't sound good with our last name.
Violet and Poppy got nixed by SO.
I love the name Liam but it's soooo popular and I don't want my kid to deal with tons of others in his class with the same name.

Heidi- it was our cat's name, Fiona- DH hates it, Ruth- sounds terrible with our last name.

@grizz: my husband too, re: granny names! Ruby is also a favorite of mine!

Rocco.... even though DH is mostly Italian, his last name is mega irish.

Sophie, Olivia, Gracie, anything with "Elle/Ellie" as a potential nickname.

    We love:
    Nicolas
    William
    Lucas/Luke
    Henry

But we are close to people with those names (or their kids have those names) and it would be weird. Funny how its all boy names on our list so far.

@Smurfette: All of DH's siblings have the same initials so we're doing that too. He didn't tell me that he wanted to until we were trying to name DD. I told him that would've been nice to know when we were picking the initials and naming the oldest child but...oh well lol. His great grandma, who he was really close to, was named Edith! I thought about it briefly for DD and I'm actually leaning toward Edith (Edie for short) or Eva for a future DD!

@Running Elley: That would have been nice to know!

I love Milo and Max, but Dan hates them - he says they're animal names.

@photojane: I love Milo but DH also thinks its a dog name! So sad

@MoonMoon: I must have missed that thread. How would you pronounce it?

Penny. We decided to name our first dog (together as a couple) Penny and she ended up dying a month after we got her from distemper. Although I will always remember our dog Penny, I kind of wish I had saved it for a little girl.

We both love Lily but it's too popular. I've loved Petra (since reading Ender's Shadow) but it sounds weird with our last name.

I love Jack but DH doesn't like it because it reminds him of someone he knew as a kid. He also doesn't like Oliver, which I love, because it reminds him of the kid on the Brady Bunch. Really???

  26. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@fancyfunction: I love Grace too, but Hubby nixed it too. What's up with that?

I also love Jack but it rhymes with our last name and would sound rediculous. Also Nicholas, James and Oliver, but the first two are BIL name and the last is a friend and I'm pretty sure they would all get giant big heads if they had a kid named after them.

  27. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3393 posts

@IRunForFun: I would pronounce it anna-eese, but many people would pronounce it annay!

    Here's the thread: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/how-do-you-pronounce-aden-anais

@Grace: I know! Mine thinks it sounds too old-fashioned, but that's what I like about it.

so our last name is very similar to the word shed, so I always joke that we are going to name our kid Rusty- boy or girl! I think when we get pregnant we will refer to in utero baby as Rusty. Also we would not be able to use any season or flower names...rose shed,, summer shedd etc.
Also can't use any Don names or Dawn names as my DH's entire family used those up

Benjamin - our last name is too similar to Franklin and we live in the Philly area.

Theodore - Love this one but our DD is Eleanor so we would look like crazy Roosevelt fans.

Simon and Alice - we have cats with these names.
