DH and I already have first names chosen and want to use a family name as the middle name, as a way to name the baby after someone in the family, but without sharing the same first name. I have been blessed with many family members and the relationship I have with them. I have the same deep relationship with some as I do my own parents. I am afraid that whoever I chose to name the baby after, the other person will feel offended. Have you ever named your LO after someone in the family and received negativity from other members?

We named LO after DH's great grandmother. Everyone loves her name for the most part. FIL had his heart set on another name that we considered, and he expressed some disappointment, but he's kind of negative anyway.

R has my dads name as her middle (it is also my middle). he is deceased so no issues because of it. For future LOs we are choosing family names to use as a middle...I do not think anyone will be offended if we choose to honor a living relative.

We gave DD my mother's middle name as her middle name. My mom was pleasantly surprised and we haven't gotten any negative feedback. We kinda figured our kids already are getting DH's family name so it's nice to give them something from my family. If we have a boy I'd like to give him my dad's name as his middle name.

I don't think anyone would be offended by your choosing. You can only have so many kids, right?? Can't use everyone's names!
I like the idea of using a family member's name as a middle. We're thinking of doing that too.

LO's middle name is after my husband's deceased maternal grandmother. She was someone very dear to both of us so I feel no qualms with choosing her.
If we have a boy next his middle name will be after my deceased BIL.We feel strongly about both of our choices so I really don't care if other people are offended. Thankfully none of my family are because they understand.
I think as long as you two feel strongly for the reason why you chose that person then that should be enough.

My DD and my FIL share a middle name. It was his mom's maiden name. MIL has pushed back a bit saying his side of the family is too heavily represented because she has his last name as well. Too bad so sad. We plan on having four and using a family name from each grandparents side in age order.

DS1's middle name is a family tradition with my SO's family (him, his dad, grandpa, etc all share the same MN) so I didn't mind it and everyone else understood. DS2's MN is after my grandpa, we picked the name and then my grandpa passed away before DS2 was born. My dad was a little hurt DS2 wasn't named after him though (before my grandpa passed)
and it did make me feel a little bad because I didn't think it would bother him. But when/if we have #3 it will be named after my dad.

If LO is a girl her middle name will be my maternal grandmother's middle name. However we are also "honoring" my DH's maternal grandmother with this middle name because it comes from her first name. I am a little worried about my MIL not understanding and making a stink but oh well. I am very close to my maternal grandmother and DH asked me not to use first names of living relatives due to Jewish tradition. So if I was allowed to do that our LO's middle name wouldn't even be close to DH's grandmother's name.
If LO is a boy his middle name will be after my uncle who passed away. I think everyone understands why I'm doing this. Since I will use it as a middle name someone else in the family is free to use it as a first name if they choose to do so.

We chose family names for first and middle names (we were team green so we had 2 names on board). I did make sure to have one name from each side of the family for both choices (so first name from DHs fam, middle name from mine). Definitely didn't worry about if it was DHs mother's side or father's. I wanted to name my kid what I wanted, and it seemed too stressful to worry about everybody else's feelings!
and it did make me feel a little bad because I didn't think it would bother him. But when/if we have #3 it will be named after my dad.
