Hellobee Boards

I've started NaNoWriMo several times before we got married, but have yet to ever finish a book I started, and that computer crashed, so I can't even go back and finish it. I might participate, but with a smaller goal than suggested. Maybe a page a day. It's not much, but with being a mom, teaching first grade and blogging, there's not much room for writing a whole book.

I so badly want to, but I can't see how I'm going to find the time. if I were to participate, I would bend the rules a little, and basically rewrite and existing novel I have been ignoring.

I am! I have been working to try to firm up my story with someone on the boards through messages. I have got my story plotwise up to a point and then it drops off and I need to figure out what to do next quick.

I am realistic enough to know Ill probably wont be able to win Nano but my own personal goal is to try to write at least a little daily. I already have 3500 words in so yay

I would love to have a group to support and encourage each other and maybe even share our stories and our problems to see if we cant help one another?

I don't have a blurb for my novel. It's a magical realism mystery. I want it to be a cross between Gillian Flynn and Aimee Bender (she wrote The Particular Taste of Lemon Cake). It's about a woman who receives a kidney from her mother. After the transplant starts seeing her mother's memories and learns that her mother has been lying about who she is all this time. She's a journalist, so she tries to put the story of her mom's life together and what she learns threatens to destroy the family.

I have about 3 chapters (about 9,500 words) written and I'm currently in a fiction workshop, so 2 chapters have been critiqued and I have a clear outline and direction for the novel. I'm doing a reading from the in-progress work soon and I'm freaking out a little.

I'm trying to win this year, so the full 50k. I've set up a schedule that includes writing as many words as possible on the weekend after LO goes to bed and taking my lunch break to write.

@Skadi: I wrote 1799 words today. This was 4 different writing sessions, one on my smartphone. Trying to fit it in anyway I can! I may write some more on my phone in bed after LO falls asleep. I'm trying to write as much as I can on the weekends so that I can write less on the weekdays when it's busier.

The writing came a little hard today because I was thinking too hard about making my word count.

@SKADI: I was just telling my husband that sometimes I write myself into plot holes! I think that description is spot on.

I was able to reach my goal yesterday. I'm a little behind today, hoping to get 600 words in by the end of the day. So far, I'm having fun!

My novel is about the relationship between a mother and her daughter and I find that the closer to home it hits, the harder it is for me to write. Can anyone else relate to that?

@Warbler: My novel is also about a mother daughter relationship, just add magic.

I was able to write 1927 words today while DH napped with LO and even though our apartment is a mess. I'm at 3726 words for the first two days. This is one chapter. The hardest thing for me was pushing through the suckage. I wanted to go back and revise but the good thing is that I surprised myself by writing something not in my outline and I liked the direction it took the story in.

Not sure how many words I will be able to get done tomorrow, I really only have an hour at my lunch break for writing tomorrow.

@Skadi: Good reminder. It's hard to remember that this is not a final draft.

@Skadi: I need silence. I have ADHD and my mind already wanders easily so any distracting can kill me. Its bad enough I need to type on a computer with the Internet at my finger tips primed with distractions

@Skadi: I have a pandora station that plays classical soundtracks and sometimes I'll listen to that, but mostly I need silence. I find I end up talking to myself a lot while I write - not just to reread what I wrote, but to work through plot points, hash out dialog. Does anyone else do this (or am I crazy?)

I'm not keeping track of word count as my goal is just to get some work accomplished every day, and so far I've been working on my story every day. It feel so good to get back to it, although finding a block of time isn't easy.

I think I'm a swooper. I'll be out walking the dog or driving home for work and will think of a better way to write an aspect of my story. Then I'll come back to it, meaning to add a couple of sentences to a para graph and end up rewriting three pages!

@mrsjazz: Oh you get badges? I hit 5644 last night but the site kept crashing on me too so I couldnt update

@Mrs. Chocolate: Yeah! And I want my badge. Apparently the site is having a major issue and the admins are working on it (There's a NaNoWriMo FB group I found that out on.). I tried to update my count tonight and it totally cleared my word count. Good thing I have an Excel spreadsheet.

Gosh, I haven't done Nano in ages and I'm always ignoring those niggly nano emails. I feel terrible about it really, wish I would have given it a shot this time around. I'm so far behind now though that I will never catch up.

@mrsjazz: aaaaahhhhh, you are the devil on my shoulder!!!!! Okay fine, I'm in. Going to be hellish trying to catch up! Time to dust off my evernote app and get to it!

@Skadi: I need you! I am the worst proofreader, editor, user of grammar etc. When I was in high school I had a friend who loved doing stuff like that so she proofed all my papers, funny how now she is an editor for a publishing company! Worked out well. I need someone like you to comb through my work because I can write a story (albeit slowly) but I cant correct one wit of it.

@Mrs. Chocolate: Is it something you can skip around? Or is it too big of a plot question that you can't write around? You don't have to write chronologically.

@Mrs. Chocolate: What about leaving yourself a placeholder? So, just write a couple of sentences or paragraphs about what you think is supposed to happen next. You don't have to write the full-on scenario.

I write linearly, too, but sometimes it stops me from getting the story out. Are you totally winging this or do you have an outline?
