Besides citronella, does anyone know any effective plants I can put in my backyard to serve as a natural Bee, flies and/or misquito repellent?
We had a huge bee ground hive problem last year and it's back.

I'm planning to put a couple of these planters around our deck. Geraniums are also good repellants, so I'll probably add some of those to the planters. http://www.littlepinkmonster.com/2011/06/08/mosquito-planter/

Not a plant, but my sister has used garlic spray in her yard to deal with mosquitos, flies and gnats and says its a miracle worker. We're planning on trying it soon too.

@Madison43: where do you get that from and how often do you spray it?
We have a creek in the backyard that the kids love to play in but meanwhile I am sitting in the grass being attacked by flying creatures - LOL

@Madison43: My MIL uses that too. It works, but I'm not a fan of the strong smell haha.
@Mamaof2: She made the mixture, garlic, palmolive soap and something else... you might be able to google it. Re-spray whenever you find they're getting bad.
@regberadaisy: I'm putting lemon grass around our deck, smells great and works! Also, catnip works great! and marigold and lavender. I'm a fan of the ones that also look and smell good as well as repelling the bugs!

For the kids I use Bubble and Bee natural insect repellant. Smells great, works pretty well and the company is owned by a friend of a friend

My parents old house had a creek behind it so lots of bugs. They bought one of these and it made a huge difference

@Mamaof2: she has a service that sprays it once every two weeks I think? But you can buy the spray yourself at home depot or on Amazon.
And yeah - she jokes that her yard smells like an Italian restaurant for a few hours but if rather that than get eaten alive!

@WinterBee: @littlebug: thanks for the tips! Went to our local nursery today and got a mosquito plant (citronella), lemongrass, Rosemary, catnip and marigold. Smells great!
Ironic part is I was planting at night and got bit!
