What is/was in your NB diaper bag? I'm giving a friend of mine a diaper bag for her shower, but I want to give her all the essentials with it.
Annndddd, seeing as how I have no clue what the essentials are, this thread serves two purposes

@lawbee11: yep, everything that you said. We also have diaper cream, an extra nipple shield, and emergency formula.

All of the above! And maybe a travel sized tissue pack! I also always carried with me a mini first aid kit. I put a tube of neosporin, gauze and bandaids in a ziploc. You never know! I'm an overpreparer though.

Everything that @lawbee11 said, plus hand sanitizer, diaper cream, bib, nail file and nose frida.

Everything that's listed so far plus we have: sanitizer, bug spray, sun screen, disposable diaper changing pads, gas drops/teething tabs, Tylenol, diaper disposal bags...probably all not super necessity like but it's in there

I left off a few things because she has a smallish bag picked out..but this covers all the basics?

@banana: Is it bad that I want to get her a different diaper bag because she's got an awful cheap plastic one picked out? Or would that be rude since she picked it out for a reason...

@MrsTiz: You probably don't need sunscreen (it's not recommended for LOs under 6 months). I would probably add a few gallon size zip locks to contain any clothes/blankets if her LO has a blowout.
ETA: Oh, and if space is a premium, the A+A blanket can double for a nursing cover.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@MrsTiz: Well we have sunscreen because LO is old enough, I was thinking more the first year rather than the first couple of months.

We keep a few of those lightly scented, sassy bags in our diaper bag in case I have to change LO somewhere where there isn't a suitable trash bin.
I also keep a floppy bonnet on hand in case the sun is especially bright (like @mslipgloss: mentioned, sunscreen is a no-go, at first.

@MrsTiz: Hmmm. I would just stick with the bag that she picked for herself. Because bag choices can be pretty personal, you know?

@MrsTiz: tough call on the cheap diaper bag- is she someone who would like anocer one but doesn't want to waste money or is just practical?
I think your list looks great. I do not bring a nursing cover though, I find using the A&A blanket just as easy and takes up less space and serves two functions. But a pack of them alone is $50ish.

I also put extra onesies/change of clothes.
Awesome gift!!

Definitely include a onesie or a sleeper because it's practical and fun to pick out!

Snot sucker- I would have died without one. Well, maybe not that bad, but my little guy sneezed milk out of his nose on a regular basis and it freaked me out!

@MrsTiz: awesome list! like others said I would maybe add a spare outfit and some ziplock bags for wet clothes. with those added that's basically my bag even now at 13 months, just minus the nursing cover (I never used one). and I just had regular muslin blankets, couldn't justify the a+a premium!
would have loved to get this as a shower gift, personally!

@deerylou: That's right . . . I totally forgot that I keep at least one hat in an easily accessible side pocket for short trips in and out of the sun!

You could do wetbags, instead of the ziplocks....I still use ours, at almost 3 years old for wet clothes, shoes, bathing suits, etc.
