For the first few weeks, baby will be sleeping with us in our bedroom (in his pack 'n play) and I need a night light so getting around and to avoid tripping over things while changing him or grabbing him.
But, I can't find one that is
1. big enough to distribute enough light
2. Not so bright and big that it wakes baby or keeps DH up.
Any suggestions? or am I reading way too into this?

We have the Twilight turtle and it works pretty well. It doesn't give off a ton of light, but if that's what you're looking for it might be okay? It's also just really cute.

We have this nightlight in our bathroom:
This is the only pic I could find but I believe I got it at Walmart. It flickers like a candle and I think it is very relaxing. It doesn't keep us up if the door is open but I can definitely see when I go in the bathroom.

We used the built in nightlight on our Angelcare monitor. You don't have to have the monitor on for the nightlight portion to work. Does your monitor have a nightlight?

I had and liked the OXO Tooli Blue/Green pair. It was just enough for a soft glow, and they're rechargeable, so you can take each or both from room to room.

Are you planning on changing baby there in the bedroom? We just leave the nursery night light on all night, which is just a lamp with a very low watt bulb. If LO wakes up in the night, my eyes have adjusted to the dark and I can get her to the nursery without the aid of additional light. If your bedroom has a street light in the area, there may be enough light from that.

@pelikila: we have the angelcare! I've got to turn it on and see how much light it gives off because that would solve the issue plus when he goes to the nursery I can carry the monitor with me as a flashlight/guide through the house

@TurtleDoves: I should clarify that the portion of that monitor that has the nightlight is the portion that is typically in baby's room (the base), not the receiver. Since you said baby will be in your room at first I thought maybe you could bring the base into your room and just not turn it on, only use the nightlight portion. We do, however, use the receiver as a flashlight when walking through the house as it gives off just enough light when removed from its charger. It doesn't stay lit so it is just for a about 20 seconds or so.

We have this one and I love it - it's portable so you can take it from your room to the nursery (or vice versa) and they have different animals (fun for when baby is older). I researched and this as well as the OXO one mentioned above got great reviews.

I love those kinderglo night lights, it's on my list of things to buy once ours craps out. Right now we have a nightlight that casts a greenish glow in my son's room, I find that to be better than the white lights.

@looch: the kinderglo is either purple, blue, red, or green (or a variation of those colors if you let it turn from one to the net). I love the blue glo!

This was a huge issue for us and my sensitive DH ended up sleeping in another room until about 6 weeks when LO started sleeping through most of the night and I was so well-versed in the night-feeding to do it without light.
