One of my co-workers and her husband just became foster parents to a 5-month old little girl. She and her husband only had a day's notice that they were getting her, so they don't have very much in terms of clothes. I'd like to get her some fall/winter clothes. We live in Houston, so it never gets super cold (and never snows) but I was thinking a couple of good sweaters or a lightweight jacket. I'd like it to be something she can get a lot of use out of and that holds up well. I was thinking maybe something from Baby Gap because I've heard their clothes are good quality. Is there anything you'd suggest? What are some of your favorite fall/winter essentials?

Considering it's Houston and you can't put babies in a car seat in anything bulky, stick to layers: zip-up hoodies or sweaters are always good. Something semi-neutral that can be worn over anything. Pants with a thin layer of fleece are good. Socks -- baby socks always go missing, but are a must for cooler months when you go out. And long-sleeved onesies, of course.

What about some leggings to go under longer shirts or dresses?

I'd get a bunch of Carters Sleep and Plays, they're all one piece, including feet, and are probably warm enough for Houston, even with air conditioning.

@Leialou: Thanks! Leggings are a really good idea. I also found a reversible cardigan/pants set online at baby gap, so that might be good cause it's 2 outfits in 1.
