Are you crafty? If you buy a piece of wood at Home Depot you could paint something on it. It's easy to paint on wood because you can print out whatever you want on the computer and put it on the wood and trace with a pen. It leaves an indentation on the wood so you can see where to paint.

what is your husband into? For mine I would look at a nice cutting board or maybe wood handled cheese knives (he likes to cook), a nice wooden frame for a piece of art we still haven't framed from our honeymoon, maybe a wooden handled pocket or utility knife of some kind (for hiking/outdoors), antique tools...
I saw these cool wooden charging stands for ipods/iphones on etsy when I was poking around if he is more of a tech guy?

@artbee: what a great idea!
What about DIYing a name plaque for the house? I like the wood picture frame idea.
I like anniversary gifts to be things that will last a long time.

I got my husband a really nice pen crafted from an Ash tree. You can find a variety on etsy made from different types of wood. The one I bought was around $15, so quite affordable also!

My BFF got married two weeks ago and she had a wooden "plaque" made that consisted of 3 lines.
This is Our Happily Ever After
The (Last Name) Family
Est. (Month DD, YYYY)
The name of your family had the biggest font. Let me know if you want to see a picture, and I'll see if I can find it on my phone!

@aprk: ooh the beer tote is SUPER cool. I'm saving that for next year for DH.

We celebrate our anniversaries by deciding on a present together that fits the traditional "theme" gifts. For our first anniversary (paper) we got concert tickets and a framed fine art print. For wood, we will probably buy a nice piece of wood furniture.
You could go to a thrift shop and get a chair, bar stool, small table, etc. and refinish it.
I love the beer tote. I'm thinking of getting it for DH's birthday. Along the same lines, I saw a wooden beer flight holder in the dollar deals section at Target. You could paint or stain it, get tasting glasses, and a few microbrews for him to try it out.

Wood watch! Super cool! I might also steal this one.
Cuff links for special occasions.
BBQ set for the grill-master!
My husband does wood working as his hobby so I know this will be a big year for us! DH made his wedding band out of wood. Super unique, could be another gift idea too.

We picked out a pretty flowering tree and planted it in our yard four our 5th.

A bottle hitch that's on a wooden plaque, a big meat carving board with your last name engraved on it for Thanksgiving or grilling, a throwing down landscape mulch, costs very little and makes the yard look so much nicer.

I love those optical illusion wooden wine holders that look like they would lose balance⦠ok I'm not describing it too well! But google "wood balance wine holder etsy" to see what I mean.
