DD's first birthday is creeping near and I have not made any plans yet - eeks! It's in February and while I would have loved a simple picnic in the park, it's probably not a good idea with the cold weather (we live in NYC). Any suggestions for birthday party location in NYC that won't break the bank? It can be Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island or nearby Jersey. Am I stuck with just party stores? I'd love to just rent a cheap community room and decorate it myself.

the community room idea is nice. if you don't have one, i would see if any of your friends have a community room in their building that you can rent.

Good luck! Do any apartments there have a community room you could rent or use? Just a smaller space that is usually pretty cheap?
We just did ours at our house and it worked nicely. I loved decorating!

We ended up calling a local pizza place (it's an old stone train station) and asking about having a party there. They had a back room, didn't charge a room fee, just food. We were allowed to bring our own cake. It was great!
I would definitely check out local restaurants and see if they have a big table, corner or room. A lot of times they don't charge extra, just happy to have your business.
