I was hoping to do Elfster but MIL has already gone ahead and gotten individual gifts for everyone. So, know I need to figure out a gift for DH brothers, they all have GFs and I'd prefer to just give one gift per couple since I don't know the GFs. What is a good, non crap gift? I was thinking food, like something William-Sonoma? Thoughts? I'd like to keep to around $50 a couple.

I'd do a restaurant gift card. Or Ticketmaster (if they like concerts/shows).

Can you do a date night? Like movie and dinner giftcards? Or just movie ones but put them in a bucket with some snacks so there's more to "open"?
My brother and SIL usually give DH and I something like that. Or a bottle of wine with a giftcard. Some people might think the idea is lame, but we've never once not used what they gave us!

We did a movie bucket like @MaryM: suggested one year for our sisters and their SOs. And we have also done restaurant gift cards to their favorite places. SIL has a new boyfriend this year and we will probably do something like that again because I have no idea what I would get him. A couples gift is just easier!

How about a short subscription (like 3 months) to one of those subscription box clubs that has some kind of snack or treat?
I also like the restaurant gift card idea in theory, but the ones we tend to get from family members are not convenient for us at all and not ones we are excited to go to (obviously this is different if you know your BILs' tastes).

If you're not sold on restaurants, SIL has also gotten us a giftcard to Trader Joe's that was fun. We don't go there regularly since moving, but you can get fun date night type stuff there. I think I ended up getting us wine and several dinners when we used it.

How old are they? Do you guys have the VIP movie seating? that would be a nice upgrade from regular movie tickets.
Alcohol is also nice too! Gin/bourbon/scotch? Wine or champagne/sparkling brut?

@Freckles: they are in their 30s. We live in DC and they live in Atlanta. I'm not familiar with what is or isn't in Atlanta but my guess is most popular chain stores would be.

We've given a gift card for a Sur La Table cooking class that my brother and SIL really enjoyed. That's very taste specific though and obviously wouldn't work if that's not their thing.

@BandDmommy: Maybe stalk their facebook feeds to see where tend to go and see if you can get GCs to places they enjoy.

I don't like the idea of gift cards to restaurants because a $50 gift card to a non-crap restaurant will inevitably end up costing the recipient money to eat there.
I like gifting good wines and specialty foods. Since this is family, it should be sort of easy to find out what they like. Do they like wine? Get them a couple of bottles of really nice wine. Another great gift is olive oil and balsamic. There are shops all over the place now that specialize in olive oil and balsamic. A bottle of a good aged balsamic and a flavored olive oil would be great.
Edit - I just saw you said they are in Atlanta. Will you see them at Christmas or are you trying to send something easy? I really like a gift that has a little more thought so if you did want to do a GC, you could do one to a shop that sells the above types of things.

We are doing all couples gifts this year. For bro and SIL we are going to get a nice monogrammed door mat for their new house. Not sure what to get parents but I'm not in to gift cards for family. It seems impersonal.

Wolferman's bakery is a food gift I LOVE getting. They have the most amazing (and giant) English muffins. And I feel like the holidays are a good time for lavish breakfasts.

@BandDmommy: If you're looking for something you can order online and have delivered, my MIL swears by the Harry & David boxes. She thinks the pears are the best thing that have ever existed. There's a variety of price options. We did a gift set of wines from Williams-Sonoma once and that went over well, too.

My aunt got us a "date night" gift - two movie gift tickets and a bottle of wine. It was really nice and we used it.
I've been doing gift certificates for museums, golfing, etc. and gift cards for the past few years. Everyone has enough stuff. (For the adults - )

Since it's DH's brother and he knows him, why not let him pick something. Personally, I would be kind of "offended" if my brother got me a food basket. That's so impersonal and something you get for a co-worker or a client, not a close family member.
Some suggestions:
An adult board game
A small, fun kitchen appliance they would be into like a french press or an ebelskiver maker, (if they are foodies or into coffee) Crate and Barrel has a lot of fun items like these
Gift card for a paint night
A picnic set
A lawn game set -
I like the wine idea, not really a fan of the beer making kit. It's one of those things that may end up donated in 2 years because they never opened it...

I like your ideas with W&S. I just ordered sets of Harry & David pears for family members birthday, congratulations gifts. The pears are awesome. I also like Zingerman's (out of Michigan) for foodie gifts but they may be more than $50.
