aww...poor baby. I think at 12 weeks it's not as normal, but I really have no idea.

DD screamed all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. But she got over it! And, I was so sleep deprived I hardly remember It was tough, but well worth it. She turned a corner at about 12/13 weeks and was less "tense" (as my mom use to say). I know she wasn't normal..... I know of very few babies who were/are like her.

Their baby could be colicky. 12 weeks is right about the time that it hits. I wouldn't be worried about it. It's probably annoying, but sounds okay by me as we suffered through colic.

@Vegmama: that is soooo sad!! I would assume her daughter is colicky or has something like acid reflux... but generally those are things outgrown around 3 months. Maybe she's on the tail end of it!

My nanny child had colic bad and they said it was non stop crying from weeks 4-12 or 16. The only thing that soothed her was nursing or the baby swing.

This scares me! I can barely handle it when babies cry.. I pray my babe isn't part of the 20%. Luckily we'll have LO around winter so our windows should be shut.. I would hate to put neighbors through that.

My LO has had a few weeks like that where absolutely nothing would soothe him! He has reflux. Sounds like their baby has reflux or colic too.

We had a few weeks where our LO cried from 3pm until bedtime unless the vacuum was on. We're in an apartment so I was pretty sure someone would call CPS on us but we never heard a complaint. She grew out of it around 10 weeks.

Mine did this. He would scream nonstop for 12-15 hours a day. He had MSPI and his tummy hurt him

You must not have children. Poor baby... I bet poor thing is colicky. Babies do cry. Sometimes they cry a LOT.

I like Kemma's suggestion of offering to help that mama out with a meal or coffee. If anything, it's a good "get to know your neighbor" tactic.

And then hopefully, one day you'll be blessed with a baby of your own- you know, the perfect kind that never has to have its constant crying drowned out by mama's iPod...

Oh no! I feel bad for them!!! G was a "great" "easy" baby, almost never cried. P on the other hand... had so many tummy & feeding issues that she cried almost constantly for the first 5 mths! I thought I'd never survive!

FWIW I would've loved a coffee buddy seeing as in that time I hated going anywhere b/c it was so stressful!

I'm so sorry for them! My daughter was like that for 3 weeks. Inside, outside, in the car, anywhere. always screaming. I felt trapped in my home. I bet they would love some adult conversation or someone to watch the baby for a bit so they can have a break.

@TurtleDoves: haha! I didn't have to ask our neighbors, they came over and asked if he was okay!

@runsyellowlites: me too. I would've killed for a friend during that time.
Ihad LO during a time when everyone was busy and I didn't really have anyone to just come and have coffee with me when I was feeling really crappy.

@runsyellowlites: Same. I went nuts being home but I lived i. Fear of having to take her anywhere because shed just scream.

Yep I was too scared to leave the house for like 10 weeks. It's so terrible.

You pretty much described my DD's first 3.5 months of life I was so terrified our neighbours would think I was not being a good parent that I would close all our windows so no one could hear!

our neighbor's baby cried all the time too! i couldn't hear her through the walls, but the cries came through the door, down the hallway and through our door. she seems like a happy kid now though. i felt bad...i think it depends on the baby though. my dd had a pretty easy temperament and only cried if there was something wrong. we were very lucky. my point is, don't let it scare you too much. you could end up with a super easygoing baby too

awww poor baby! yea, our LO cried a LOT as a newborn, but it was mainly in the evening witching hours. I think going over there with some food or coffee sounds like a great idea! the mom might want some company and a "break".
