so, so sad. I heard it on the radio this evening and my jaw dropped. I mean, I know it had to happen at some point..but still sad.

Truly a tragic day, especially for the people of South Africa. My heart really aches for them, today.

If ever a man (or woman) deserved to rest in peace...

I heard in the car on my way home. Listening to all the leaders of the world choke up talking about him brought me to tears. What an inspiration

This makes me sad. But what a wonderful and inspiring man, who led a truly remarkable life.

@sorrycharlie: regarding it *had to happen* . . . you know, when the world wins the human lottery with someone like Nelson Mandela (or Mother Theresa) it seems like such injustice for them to only live one short life. Almost like they should qualify for a *bonus round* . . . !

We lost a great one today. I can't believe he was imprisoned for 1/3 of his life. Rest in peace, Madiba.

We've lost a great man! May he rest in peace. He lived a long, meaningful life and inspired so many through his challenges and triumphs.

Does anyone else find it sad that FB was FLOODED with posts about Paul Walker's death (albeit a tragedy) but there have been very few posts about Nelson Mandela?

@rahlyrah: My Facebook is flooded with posts about Nelson Mandela! Even more so than when Paul Walker died.

@rahlyrah: Oh, I've seen a ton of Nelson Mandela posts versus Paul Walker. I'll admit that I didn't post about Paul Walker's death (I did read almost all of the articles that popped up about him and his death), but with Nelson Mandela's death, I posted a quote and a picture within 30 minutes of finding out.

Our nation has lost its greatest son. At last he can sleep and become just a man again. A radio DJ here said today, Tata Madiba (what he is called here in SA) has closed his eyes so the world can open theirs. So beautiful. Such a sad day for us

I was entranced by the news outlets coverage of this last night. He really was an amazing man, I can't imagine living the life he led (imprisoned for 27 years!!!) and when released, coming out so strong.

@MsLipGloss: agree. I just was glad the report said he passed peacefully, with family by his side..after everything he deserved peace. So sad, though.

He was an incredible man. What a joy and pleasure it was to get to witness some of his life. Rest in peace, Mandela.

@rahlyrah: Nope, my FB feed is the same as yours. Tons of Paul Walker posts, very few about Nelson Mandela. Sort of makes me think about the people I surround myself with...

Still just so sad. I want to celebrate his life and all his achievements but I can't help but think that we will not see this kind of heroism again anytime soon.

@rahlyrah: @littlebug: My FB was the same. Tons of Paul Walker, hardly any Mandela.
