I grew up in homes that were bought before construction and agree that they can have quality issues. Our current home is <20 years old and I feel like it's a decent compromise. Only one previous owner, lots of customization, relatively up to date.

I love house projects, so I definitely prefer older builds. I love being able to say that I fixed or updated something myself using quality materials.

I like brand new. We had an architect design our dream house for us and it's currently being built!

it's hard to decide.
Both options will cost you money - with new, you're putting money in for upgrades, window coverings, all of those things that would be there in a resale. With older homes, you'll have a roof or furnace to replace, etc. It all evens out in the end.
I like older homes because they have larger yards and are built different than they are today. We bought brand new because it allowed us a year to pay a deposit down over the 12 months before we moved in.
